Technical Project Manager
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Technical Project Manager based in the United Kingdom.
As a Technical Project Manager, you will lead complex, high-impact engineering programs that span multiple teams, systems, and technical domains.
You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, shaping program strategy and setting a high standard for execution across the organization.
The role sits at the intersection of technical depth, strategic planning, and hands-on delivery, requiring you to work closely with engineers and product leaders.
You will own scope, milestones, dependencies, risks, and trade-offs while ensuring critical initiatives remain on track.
You will act as a trusted coordination point across Engineering, Product, Design, Security, and go-to-market teams.
Your ability to bring clarity to ambiguity and communicate program health effectively will give technical and executive leadership the visibility needed to make informed decisions.
This is an opportunity to influence how complex engineering work gets delivered in a highly technical, AI-focused environment.
Accountabilities
- Own complex engineering programs end to end, from initial definition and cross-functional planning through delivery, iteration, and closeout.
- Define and manage program scope, milestones, timelines, dependencies, risks, and critical deliverables across teams that may not share direct reporting lines.
- Drive cross-functional trade-offs and ensure key decisions are documented clearly, with accountability maintained throughout execution.
- Work closely with engineers and product managers to understand technical details and influence architectural, sequencing, and interface decisions where appropriate.
- Serve as the central coordination point across Engineering, Product, Design, Security, and go-to-market functions.
- Establish and maintain an effective operating cadence, providing clear and concise updates on program health, risks, dependencies, decisions, and trade-offs.
- Communicate effectively with technical teams, executive leadership, and customer-facing stakeholders, adapting the level of detail to each audience.
- Identify delivery risks and blockers early, develop mitigation strategies, and drive resolution across organizational boundaries.
- Provide leadership with the visibility required to understand program progress, make informed decisions, and steer high-priority initiatives.
- Improve engineering productivity through lightweight processes, effective tooling, and AI-native approaches that increase execution efficiency without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy.
- Continuously evaluate program practices and remove processes that no longer add value while maintaining appropriate rigor and accountability.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in technical program management, including ownership of complex, multi-team engineering programs where no single team was responsible for the complete outcome.

- Proven track record of delivering complex initiatives at scale, including ownership of externally committed milestones such as general availability launches, major releases, or regulated enterprise deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to influence teams and stakeholders without direct authority, establish direction with minimal oversight, and make progress despite ambiguity or competing priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with engineers, product managers, executives, and customer-facing stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple dependencies, risks, priorities, and stakeholders simultaneously.
- Sound judgment around process, knowing when structure and rigor are necessary and when lightweight approaches enable teams to move faster.
- Demonstrated ownership, accountability, and ability to drive initiatives from definition through execution and delivery.
- Ability to work effectively across technical and business functions and create alignment among teams with different priorities.
- Familiarity with modern engineering environments and technologies such as Go, PostgreSQL, GCP, Kubernetes, gRPC, TypeScript, React, Vite, Prometheus, Grafana, GitHub Actions, and modern collaboration tools is advantageous.
- Interest in AI-native engineering practices and experience using AI-enabled tools to improve productivity, program execution, or technical workflows is a plus.
- Ability to operate independently in a fast-moving, highly technical environment while maintaining clarity, focus, and execution discipline.
