Technical & Quality Manager
Clacton-on-Sea, Essex
£40,000 – £50,000 per annum | Permanent
Pin Point Recruitment are working with an established manufacturer and supplier of seasonings and spices to customers across the UK and export markets, to recruit an experienced Technical & Quality Manager. This is a hands-on role where you will take ownership of food safety, quality, technical compliance and audit management, working closely with Production, NPD and the wider business.
The Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining and developing the company's technical and quality systems and ensuring the business continues to meet the required standards for quality, food safety, legality and authenticity.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing technical standards and leading external audits
- Leading and maintaining the company's HACCP system
- Ensuring compliance with BRC, Kosher and Halal requirements
- Acting as a key technical and quality contact for customers
- Managing internal audits, traceability exercises and quality meetings
- Overseeing supplier approval, supplier performance and raw material risk assessments
- Providing QC cover when required
- Carrying out QC checks within the factory
- Managing raw material, packaging and finished product approval and release
- Maintaining finished product specifications and checking labels and production documentation
- Managing non-conformances, supplier issues and customer complaints
- Ensuring appropriate sampling, testing and quality control procedures are followed
- Supporting and training colleagues on food safety, quality procedures and work instructions
- Managing, developing and supporting the Quality team
- Keeping COSHH documentation and risk assessments up to date
- Promoting a proactive culture of food safety, quality and continuous improvement

About You
We are looking for someone with previous Technical and Quality Management experience within the food manufacturing industry who is confident taking ownership of technical and food safety matters.

You should ideally have:
- Previous experience in a Technical, Quality or Technical & Quality Management role within food manufacturing
- Level 3 HACCP qualification
- Level 3 Food Hygiene or above
- Good knowledge and practical experience of BRC standards
- Experience leading and managing external audits
- Strong understanding of food safety, quality and compliance
- Experience with HACCP, traceability, supplier approval and risk assessment
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to deal confidently with customers, suppliers and colleagues
- Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise in a busy manufacturing environment
- A practical, hands-on approach and the confidence to challenge where necessary
