Technical Sales Apprentice

The Technical Sales Apprentice will develop strong commercial and technical understanding, professional communication skills, and problem-solving capability. In addition to sales experience, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to gain engineering qualifications, scientific knowledge, and experience of scientific instrumentation.

What You'll Do at Work

Working within a highly experienced sales team, the Apprentice will learn the commercial and technical skills required to support sales activities and assist in additional business development opportunities.

Main responsibilities will be:

  • To ensure timely and accurate processing of quotations and orders
  • Assisting with tender documentation
  • Acting as contact for technical support

What You'll Learn

Course contents include:

  • Follow health and safety regulations, standards, and guidance.
  • Follow procedures in line with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance.
  • Comply with engineering standards and regulations.
  • Analyse engineering and manufacturing data and information to support technical outputs.
  • Apply scientific, technical or engineering principles.
  • Apply problem solving techniques to solutions for identified technical problems.
  • Organise, plan, and prioritise workflow and scheduling of work with stakeholders.
  • Identify, organise, and use resources to complete tasks, considering cost, quality, safety, security, and environmental impact.
  • Produce job-specific technical outputs.
  • Provide support and guidance for handover of work to stakeholders.
  • Record information - paper-based or electronic.
  • Follow standard operating procedures.
  • Follow manufacturer's instructions.
  • Apply quality assurance and control principles and practices.
  • Apply continuous improvement techniques.
  • Apply team working principles.
  • Communicate in writing with others.
  • Communicate with others verbally.
  • Use information and digital technology.
  • Comply with GDPR and cyber security regulations and policies.

Training Schedule

Qualifications included:

  • Engineering and Manufacturing Support Technician - Apprenticeship Standard
  • Level 3 Diploma in Engineering and manufacturing Support technologies (1 day per week for 2 years at college)
  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Technical Support
  • Level 2 Functional Skills- Maths (if required)
  • Level 2 Functional Skills - English (if required)

Essential Qualifications

  • GCSE in:
    • A minimum of 5 GCSEs including Science, English & Maths (grade 5-9 / C-A*)

Desirable Qualifications

  • A Level in:
    • A Level or equivalent qualification in STEM subject (grade A* - E)

Other Requirements

XDS Oxford operates a Flexible Hours Scheme, allowing a choice of start and finish times to suit individual requirements. Standard working pattern is 8 hours (plus half-hour lunch break) Monday - Thursday, 5 hours on Friday.

We also offer a Compressed Hours rota, allowing for a 9-day fortnight.

College will be in Bicester, Oxfordshire.
