Job Spec – Sales Engineer

The Company:

Flowplant designs and builds bespoke fluid pumping systems including hydrostatic test units, high pressure umbilical flushing equipment, water jetting machines and drain Jetters for some of the world's largest companies. We have a reputation as a competent and innovative, privately owned engineering SME.

Based in Salisbury, UK, our customer base spans the globe, with equipment operating in over 80 countries and across a diverse range of industries.

Amongst others, we are approved suppliers to Subsea7, GE, Aker Solutions, Technip FMC, Rolls Royce Submarines and Openreach for a broad range of high-pressure fluid pumps and systems.

It is part of our strategic plan to grow market share in all market sectors and geographic regions, and this role therefore represents an exciting opportunity to assist in the realisation of this plan and to benefit from the company's growth along the way.

The Role:

We are looking for a Sales Support Engineer to join our growing sales team. This role is aimed at an ambitious individual looking to develop a long-term career in technical sales and business development.

Initially, the successful candidate will work within the internal sales team, supporting customer enquiries, preparing quotations, generating technical proposals and gaining a detailed understanding of our products, customers and markets. They will work closely alongside the UK sales team and shadow the UK Business Development Manager to gain practical experience in customer engagement, business development and account management.

The role will also involve supporting the Sales Director with technical sales submissions, tender responses and project-based opportunities within both the UK and export markets. As experience develops, the successful candidate will take on increasing responsibility for customer visits, sales development activities and project management.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A technical or engineering background.
  • Approximately 2-5 years of industry or commercial experience.
  • Previous customer-facing, sales support or engineering experience.
  • Strong IT skills
  • The ability to communicate technical information in an easy-to-understand format.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive and organised approach to work.
  • The ability to build customer relationships and identify new opportunities.
  • A high level of self-motivation, energy and determination.
  • A genuine desire to develop a successful career in technical sales and business development.
  • A willingness to travel extensively throughout the UK and internationally when required.
  • The flexibility to work around customer requirements, including early starts, late finishes and occasional overnight stays.

A degree or higher qualification in engineering or a related discipline would be advantageous, but is not essential.

There will be a requirement to travel regularly throughout the UK and occasionally overseas to visit customers, attend exhibitions, support project activities and identify new business opportunities. This role will suit someone who enjoys meeting people, is comfortable with early starts and late finishes when required, and has the drive, ambition and work ethic to succeed within a growing international engineering business.

The role reports to the Sales Director.
