The Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Sales Engineer to join a growing technical business operating within the scientific and engineering sector.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong technical sales background who enjoys working with customers, developing new business and selling complex technical products or solutions into international markets.

Working within a small and collaborative team, you will have responsibility for managing existing customer and distributor relationships while actively identifying and developing new commercial opportunities.

The successful candidate will need to be technically minded, commercially driven and self-motivated, with the ability to understand customer requirements and translate them into suitable technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage incoming sales enquiries via telephone and email.
  • Understand customer requirements and provide appropriate technical solutions and quotations.
  • Develop and grow relationships with existing customers and distributors.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities across existing and potential markets.
  • Support and develop international distributor networks.
  • Provide product and technical sales training to distributors and customers where required.
  • Build strong relationships with key technical and commercial contacts.
  • Manage sales opportunities from initial enquiry through to order placement.
  • Follow up quotations and maintain regular communication to maximise conversion.
  • Work towards agreed sales and revenue targets.
  • Identify opportunities for upselling, cross-selling and account development.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date information within the CRM system.
  • Monitor the sales pipeline and provide regular updates and forecasts to management.
  • Produce sales reports and highlight opportunities, risks and recommended actions.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the company's products, applications and target markets.
  • Work closely with internal teams to ensure customer requirements are understood and delivered effectively.
  • Attend customer meetings, exhibitions, conferences and trade shows in the UK and internationally.
  • Keep up to date with developments within the relevant scientific, engineering and technology markets.

The Candidate

  • Previous experience within technical sales, ideally selling scientific, laboratory, engineering or instrumentation products.
  • 2+ years' experience within a technical/scientific sales environment.
  • A proven track record of selling complex technical products or solutions.
  • Experience managing international customers and/or distributors would be advantageous.
  • Degree qualified in Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong technical understanding with the ability to confidently discuss products and applications with scientists and engineers.
  • Experience using CRM systems and managing a sales pipeline.
  • Knowledge of areas such as microscopy, spectroscopy, analytical equipment or laboratory technology would be advantageous.
  • Commercially aware with a strong focus on winning new business and growing existing accounts.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Willingness to travel internationally, with approximately 20% travel expected.
