About the Role

Berthold Technologies UK is looking for a proactive, commercially driven Technical Sales Engineer to grow our Radiation Protection and Bioanalytics businesses across the North of the UK.

This is an active, outward-facing sales role for someone who enjoys identifying new opportunities, opening doors, and developing customer relationships from first contact through to order.

Berthold is a global specialist in radiation measurement and life-science instrumentation. Our technologies are used in hospitals, nuclear facilities, industrial sites, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, universities, research institutes, and specialist laboratories.

We have a strong and successful presence within hospitals and nuclear medicine. The successful candidate will maintain and grow this established customer base while actively expanding our position within the civil nuclear, nuclear decommissioning, radioactive-waste, industrial, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and scientific research sectors.

The Role

Working from home and traveling throughout the North of the UK, you will be responsible for actively developing both product areas, generating new business, and converting technical opportunities into orders.

This is not a passive account-management role. You will be expected to build your own pipeline through direct prospecting, customer visits, networking, market research, industry events, referrals, and engagement with end users, contractors, consultants, and research teams.

Within Radiation Protection, you will maintain Berthold’s successful hospital and nuclear-medicine business while placing particular emphasis on developing new opportunities in the nuclear, decommissioning, radioactive-waste, and industrial sectors.

Within Bioanalytics, you will actively develop opportunities across the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, contract research, university, medical-research, and wider life-science laboratory markets.

Your Responsibilities

  • Proactively identifying and pursuing new business opportunities across the northern UK territory
  • Developing and executing structured territory and account-development plans for both product lines
  • Building relationships with new customers, decision-makers, and technical influencers
  • Generating leads through direct prospecting, networking, market intelligence, and industry events
  • Arranging and conducting customer meetings, laboratory visits, and site visits
  • Maintaining and growing established hospital and nuclear-medicine accounts
  • Expanding Berthold’s presence within civil nuclear, nuclear decommissioning, and radioactive-waste markets
  • Identifying industrial applications for radiation detection and monitoring systems
  • Developing Bioanalytics opportunities within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, CRO, university, and research laboratories
  • Understanding customer applications and recommending appropriate Berthold solutions
  • Identifying opportunities to replace ageing or competitor equipment
  • Managing opportunities from initial contact and technical evaluation through to quotation, negotiation, and order
  • Preparing technically accurate quotations, proposals, and tender submissions
  • Delivering product presentations, technical discussions, and equipment demonstrations
  • Coordinating product evaluations, trials, and customer training
  • Following up proposals consistently and driving opportunities towards a commercial decision
  • Building relationships with radiation protection professionals, medical physicists, nuclear engineers, laboratory managers, scientists, principal investigators, and procurement teams
  • Working with nuclear contractors, engineering companies, consultants, research institutions, and public-sector procurement bodies
  • Maintaining a strong, accurate, and actively managed sales pipeline
  • Providing reliable sales forecasts and reporting on activity, market development, and competitor movements
  • Working closely with Berthold’s UK service team and product specialists in Germany
  • Representing Berthold at exhibitions, conferences, seminars, and technical events

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
