Sales Engineer – Technical Sales / Engineering Solutions
Oxfordshire | OTE £35,000–£43,000 | Commission & Company Bonus | Flexible Hours | Early Friday Finish
Do you enjoy turning complex technical challenges into practical commercial solutions?
Want a Sales Engineer role where your science or engineering knowledge is genuinely useful, rather than sitting in the background?
Looking for the chance to develop your technical sales career while working with customers around the world?
Our client is looking for a Sales Engineer to join a specialist technical business in Oxfordshire. You’ll combine engineering or scientific knowledge with commercial thinking, helping customers understand their options, shaping tailored solutions and developing opportunities from initial enquiry through to long-term account relationships.
It’s a particularly interesting opportunity for someone who enjoys the technical side of sales and wants the freedom to understand a problem properly before recommending the right solution.
You’ll work closely with senior commercial leadership while gaining exposure to business development, account management, quotations, product planning and international customers.
Why This Role is Great
- You’ll have the opportunity to build expertise across the full technical sales process rather than being limited to one part of the customer journey.
- Turn technical conversations into solutions – understand individual customer requirements and help shape both standard and customised solutions.
- Own opportunities from enquiry onwards – develop leads, create quotations, support negotiations and build lasting customer relationships.
- Put your technical background to work – use your engineering or scientific knowledge to explain products, applications and possible approaches clearly.
- Develop your commercial skills – gain experience across pricing, costing, tenders, contract discussions and account development.
- Present solutions directly to customers – run online discussions and use technical information and CAD models to bring proposed solutions to life.
- Influence future product direction – analyse customer and sales information and contribute to plans for specific product ranges.
- Build international experience – there will be opportunities to meet customers and attend conferences globally when required.
- Work with useful commercial technology – gain hands-on experience with CRM, ERP, reporting and quotation tools including Microsoft Dynamics and Sage.
- Create measurable impact – monitor prospects and sales activity while helping identify opportunities for sustainable long-term growth.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
