Technical Sales Manager – Engineered Material Handling & Metal Fabrication
Up to £65,000 Basic + Bonus + Company Car + Opportunity to Build Your Own Team
Based Uttoxeter
A senior sales opportunity with the freedom to make a real impact. Are you an experienced Technical Sales Manager from the metal fabrication, engineered material handling or industrial equipment sector? Do you enjoy developing new business, building long-term relationships with manufacturing customers and working closely with engineering teams to deliver bespoke solutions? Perhaps you're already successful in your current role but looking for greater autonomy, more responsibility and the opportunity to build and lead a sales team as the business grows.
We are recruiting for an established UK manufacturer of engineered material handling equipment, including stillages, transport frames, industrial cages and specialist handling systems. With an excellent reputation for delivering bespoke solutions to technically demanding industries, the business is looking for an ambitious, commercially driven Technical Sales Manager to help accelerate its next phase of growth. This is an opportunity to take ownership of sales development, influence commercial strategy and play a significant role in the future of the business.
The Opportunity
Working closely with the senior leadership, design and estimating teams, you will take responsibility for developing new business opportunities while maximising the potential of existing customer relationships. You will have the autonomy to identify target markets, develop strategic accounts and establish relationships with manufacturers requiring bespoke engineered handling solutions.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Identifying and winning new business across manufacturing, engineering and industrial sectors.
- Developing existing accounts and re-engaging dormant customers.
- Working with customers to understand their technical requirements and recommend appropriate engineered solutions.
- Collaborating with internal design and estimating teams to develop commercially competitive proposals.
- Managing the complete sales process, from initial enquiry and technical consultation through to quotation, negotiation and order.
- Building relationships with engineers, operations managers, procurement teams and senior decision-makers.
- Developing a strong, sustainable sales pipeline and identifying opportunities for long-term growth.
- Helping shape the sales strategy, with the opportunity to recruit, develop and lead a sales team as the business expands.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The Background We're Looking For
Relevant industry experience is essential. We are particularly interested in candidates who have sold engineered products or bespoke solutions within one or more of the following sectors:
- Metal fabrication and bespoke steel fabrication
- Engineered material handling equipment
- Stillages, industrial cages and transport frames
- Industrial racking, shelving and storage systems
- Specialist handling systems and industrial equipment
- Bespoke engineering solutions for manufacturing and industrial applications
You will understand the complexities of selling technical products into manufacturing environments, where specifications, quality, lead times and commercial considerations all influence purchasing decisions. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate a successful track record in B2B technical sales, combining proactive new business development with the ability to establish and grow long-term customer relationships. You should be confident discussing technical requirements with engineers, working alongside design teams and managing opportunities through to a successful commercial conclusion. Previous sales management experience would be advantageous, but we are equally interested in an accomplished senior technical salesperson who is ready to take the next step in their career. Above all, you will be someone who takes ownership, creates opportunities and enjoys the challenge of developing a business rather than simply managing an existing customer portfolio.
