Technical Sales Manager

£53,000-£58,000
Permanent

We are recruiting on behalf of an established international engineering organisation that works with some of the world's leading industrial businesses. The company provides engineered products, systems, and technical solutions designed to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and increase the performance and lifespan of critical industrial assets. As part of its continued development, the business is looking to appoint a Technical Sales Manager to grow its engineered solutions offering across the UK.

The Role

This is a commercially focused technical sales position, responsible for identifying and developing opportunities for automated lubrication, reliability, and associated engineered solutions.

The role will be predominantly focused on new business development, while also leveraging an established customer network and internal relationships to identify opportunities within existing accounts. You will work closely with customers to understand operational and maintenance challenges before collaborating with internal technical teams to develop appropriate solutions.

This is a consultative sales role rather than transactional product selling. Opportunities range from relatively straightforward, shorter-cycle projects through to complex, multi-site solutions with sales cycles of up to 12-18 months, and the successful candidate will need to manage both effectively side by side.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities across heavy industrial markets
  • Build strong relationships with engineering, maintenance, reliability, and operational stakeholders
  • Understand customer challenges and translate them into appropriate engineered solutions
  • Lead early stage technical and commercial discussions with customers
  • Develop value-led proposals demonstrating operational benefits, ROI, and lifecycle savings
  • Manage opportunities from initial engagement through to commercial agreement and order
  • Develop larger strategic and multi-site customer opportunities
  • Grow relationships within existing accounts and identify additional areas of opportunity
  • Work closely with engineering, project, service, and commercial teams
  • Maintain accurate CRM activity, pipeline management, and sales forecasting
  • Attend customer sites, exhibitions, and industry events as required
  • Travel regularly across the UK, with one to two overnight stays a week where required

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
