The Company
Our client is an established UK agricultural engineering business specialising in the design, manufacture and supply of technically engineered equipment and systems for the agricultural and wider commercial sectors.
With a strong reputation for practical engineering, product quality and customer service, the business provides tailored solutions to customers across the UK, with further opportunities for growth within European markets.
Due to continued development and ambitious plans for future growth, they are now looking to recruit an experienced Technical Sales Manager to join their team.
This is an exciting and influential position combining technical sales, business development, customer relationship management and practical field-based support.
The Role
As Technical Sales Manager, you will take responsibility for developing new and existing business opportunities across the UK, while also supporting potential growth within European markets.
You will manage the full customer journey, from identifying opportunities and understanding individual customer requirements through to developing technically appropriate solutions, preparing proposals, securing orders and supporting successful delivery and commissioning.
This is a varied role requiring a strong combination of commercial ability, technical understanding and practical agricultural knowledge.
The successful candidate will be comfortable developing new business while also building long-term relationships with existing customers and providing credible technical advice.
Regular travel throughout the UK will be required, alongside regular time spent at the company's East Midlands facility. Some European travel may also form part of the position.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and grow sales across UK agricultural and associated markets.
- Identify and convert new business opportunities, including key accounts, partnerships, dealer/distributor opportunities and tenders.
- Build and manage a strong sales pipeline from initial enquiry through to order.
- Develop long-term relationships with farmers, growers, agricultural businesses, dealers and commercial customers.
- Visit customer sites to understand their individual operational and technical requirements.
- Recommend and specify practical, technically appropriate equipment and system solutions.
- Prepare quotations and commercially viable customer proposals.
- Negotiate and close business while maintaining awareness of pricing, margin and customer value.
- Provide accurate sales forecasts, pipeline information and market feedback.
- Support the installation, handover and commissioning of equipment and systems where required.
- Provide practical customer training and technical support.
- Troubleshoot technical and operational issues in conjunction with internal engineering and support teams.
- Develop repeat and aftermarket revenue through replacement parts, upgrades, consumables and additional equipment.
- Work closely with engineering, production, purchasing, marketing and customer support teams.
- Provide customer and market feedback to support future product development and continuous improvement.
- Represent the business professionally at customer meetings, agricultural events and industry exhibitions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The Candidate
We are looking for an experienced sales professional with a strong understanding of agriculture, agricultural engineering, machinery, irrigation, water systems, pumps or another related technical sector.
You may already be working within irrigation, although direct irrigation experience is not essential where you can demonstrate strong technical aptitude, agricultural knowledge and a successful track record within technical sales.
You will ideally have:
- At least 5 years' experience within sales or business development in agriculture, agricultural engineering, machinery, irrigation, pumps, water systems or a related technical industry.
- A proven track record of developing relationships, generating opportunities and winning new business.
- Good practical and technical understanding with the ability to quickly learn new equipment and systems.
- Experience working with farmers, growers, agricultural businesses or technically focused customers.
- The ability to understand a customer's requirements and translate these into practical commercial solutions.
- Strong communication, presentation and relationship-building skills.
- Good commercial awareness with experience of pricing, negotiation and margin management.
- Confidence working independently and managing your own territory and customer relationships.
- A practical, solutions-focused approach to customer problems.
- Experience of technical customer support, demonstrations, installations or commissioning would be advantageous.
- Experience working with dealers, distributors or key accounts would be beneficial.
- A relevant qualification within agriculture, engineering, business or a related discipline would be advantageous, although practical industry experience will be equally valued.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel regularly throughout the UK and, where required, Europe.
