Technical Sales Manager
Sapien are looking for an experienced Technical Sales Manger for an engineering business based near West Bromwich, specialising in material handling and bespoke lifting equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a technical product specialist, advising customers on material handling and lifting solutions.
- Generate new sales opportunities through proactive business development and customer engagement.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing customers and identify opportunities for additional business.
- Conduct regular customer meetings, site visits and technical surveys throughout the UK.
- Understand customer requirements and translate them into appropriate engineering and commercial solutions.
- Prepare, cost and issue detailed technical quotations and proposals.
- Review enquiries and tenders for technical, commercial and contractual suitability.
- Negotiate pricing, commercial terms and contracts with customers.
- Maintain appropriate gross margin levels across quotations and orders.
- Liaise with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure proposed solutions are technically and commercially viable.
- Participate in design reviews and provide customer insight throughout the development process.
- Produce sales forecasts and maintain accurate pipeline information.
- Create basic concept drawings and proposal sketches where required.
- Work alongside the legal team to negotiate and agree appropriate contractual Terms & Conditions.
- Maintain regular communication with customers throughout the quotation and manufacturing process, ensuring they are kept informed of project progress.

Essential Experience & Skills

- HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, or significant relevant industry experience.
- Proven experience in a technical sales, engineering sales or customer-facing engineering role.
- Strong understanding of engineered products and the ability to interpret customer requirements.
- Experience preparing and costing quotations.
- Commercial awareness with experience negotiating pricing and contracts.
- Ability to develop and manage customer relationships.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple opportunities simultaneously.
- Experience with CAD and proposal drawings would be advantageous.
- Full UK driving licence.
