Role Overview
The Technical Sales Manager is responsible for driving sales growth by combining strong commercial acumen with technical expertise in flat roofing systems. The role involves developing relationships with contractors, specifiers, and distributors, providing technical guidance, and ensuring products are specified and installed correctly.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development
- Identify and develop new business opportunities within the flat roofing sector
- Manage and grow existing customer accounts (contractors, roofing companies, merchants, specifiers)
- Achieve and exceed agreed sales targets and margin objectives
- Track project pipelines from specification through to order conversion
Technical Support & Specification
- Provide technical advice on roofing systems, detailing, and compliance
- Support architects, consultants, and contractors with specifications and design guidance
- Assist with project detailing, including drawings, calculations (where required), and system recommendations
- Deliver site support and troubleshooting for installations

Client Relationship Management
- Build strong, long-term relationships with key stakeholders
- Act as the main point of contact for technical and commercial queries
- Conduct regular site visits, client meetings, and project reviews
- Represent the company at industry events and networking opportunities
Project & Pipeline Management
- Track live projects and manage opportunities through CRM systems
- Liaise internally with technical, operations, and logistics teams to ensure project delivery
- Monitor market activity, competitor products, and pricing trends
Training & Product Promotion
- Deliver CPDs and technical presentations to specifiers and contractors
- Train customers on product installation and best practice
- Support marketing activities, including product launches and promotional campaigns
Compliance & Quality
- Ensure all systems are used in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and relevant standards (e.g. fire, wind uplift, waterproofing compliance)
- Promote best practice and adherence to industry regulations and certifications

Key Skills & Experience (Desirable but not essential)
- Proven track record in technical sales within roofing, construction, or building materials
- Strong knowledge of flat roofing systems (e.g. PVC, TPO, bituminous membranes, insulation systems)
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Commercial awareness with strong negotiation skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage a territory effectively
- Proficient in CRM systems and Microsoft Office
Qualifications (Desirable)
- Roofing or construction-related qualification
- Knowledge of UK building regulations and standards
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Sales revenue and margin growth
- Project conversion rate (specification → order)
- Customer retention and account growth
- Number of new specifications secured
- Technical support responsiveness and customer satisfaction
