Technical Sales Manager – Global Energy Technology

Aberdeen | Global remit

Grace May is working with a specialist energy technology business to recruit a Technical Sales Manager who will take a leading role in developing its international customer base and driving sales.

This is an interesting opportunity for someone who combines a strong technical background with proven commercial ability.

The company has developed specialist technology for international energy markets and is looking to build on its existing customer base and identify further opportunities for growth.

We're looking for someone who can understand technically complex products, recognise where they can add value for customers and, importantly, turn those opportunities into sales.

This is very much a hands-on commercial role. You'll help identify which customers, markets and regions offer the greatest potential, but you'll also be the person building relationships, opening doors, developing opportunities and taking them through to commercial close.

What you'll be doing

Working closely with the leadership and technical teams, you'll:

  • Develop sales across UK and international markets
  • Identify and prioritise target customers, markets and regions
  • Build relationships with operators, service companies and other industry partners
  • Develop a detailed understanding of the company's technology, products and potential applications
  • Understand customers' technical and operational challenges and identify where the technology can add value
  • Take ownership of opportunities from initial engagement through technical discussions and commercial negotiations to sale
  • Develop new customers while continuing to grow existing relationships
  • Build and manage a strong pipeline of opportunities
  • Work closely with technical colleagues to support customer discussions and deployment
  • Provide market insight to help identify new applications and commercial opportunities
  • Report on customer activity, pipeline development and key opportunities
  • Travel internationally to meet customers and develop markets

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What we're looking for

You'll need a strong technical foundation, ideally within chemistry, chemical engineering, production technology or a related discipline.

Experience within oil and gas would be particularly valuable, although we're also interested in people from related energy, industrial or specialist chemical markets where you've worked with technically complex products or solutions.

You don't necessarily need to be working in a purely technical position today. What matters is having enough technical understanding to get to grips with the technology, ask the right questions and have credible conversations with technically knowledgeable customers.

Alongside that, you need to be commercially minded and comfortable selling.

We're looking for someone who enjoys getting in front of customers, developing relationships, opening new conversations and finding opportunities rather than waiting for enquiries to arrive.

You'll ideally bring:

  • A chemistry, chemical engineering or related technical background
  • Experience within oil and gas, energy, industrial chemicals or another relevant technical environment
  • A track record of selling technical products, technology or solutions
  • The ability to understand complex technology and communicate its commercial value
  • Experience developing new customers and markets
  • Confidence engaging with both technical and commercial decision-makers
  • A proactive, hands-on approach to sales
  • Strong commercial judgement
  • The ability to develop relationships across different international markets
  • A willingness to travel internationally as required

Why consider it?

This is an opportunity to join a specialist technology business at an important stage of its growth.

You'll have the opportunity to influence which markets and customers the business targets, while remaining directly involved in developing those relationships and winning the work.

It's a role for someone who enjoys the combination of technology, international markets and hands-on sales, and who wants the opportunity to have a visible impact on the next stage of a business's growth.
