Position Summary

The Technical Sales Specialist is responsible for developing and growing sales of NETZSCH analytical instrumentation throughout the UK and Ireland. The role combines technical expertise with consultative selling skills to identify customer needs, develop tailored solutions, and build long-term relationships with customers across industrial, research, and academic sectors.

This position requires a motivated sales professional with a strong scientific or engineering background and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a diverse customer base.

Key Responsibilities

Sales & Business Development

  • Identify, develop, and qualify new business opportunities across assigned territories and market sectors.
  • Achieve and exceed annual sales targets and key performance indicators.
  • Manage the complete sales cycle from prospecting and lead generation through quotation, negotiation, and order closure.
  • Develop strategic account plans for key customers and target accounts.
  • Maintain accurate sales forecasts and pipeline information using the company CRM system.
  • Monitor market trends, competitive activity, and emerging customer requirements.

Technical Consultation

  • Understand customer applications and recommend suitable analytical solutions.
  • Deliver technical presentations, product demonstrations, and application-based consultations.
  • Work closely with customers to develop business cases and justify investment in NETZSCH technologies.
  • Support customers in defining testing methodologies and analytical requirements.
  • Collaborate with application specialists and service engineers to provide comprehensive solutions.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with decision-makers, researchers, laboratory managers, and procurement teams.
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction throughout the sales process.
  • Support existing customers with system upgrades, accessories, software enhancements, and service opportunities.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to customers by understanding their long-term objectives and challenges.

Marketing & Industry Engagement

  • Represent NETZSCH at trade exhibitions, conferences, seminars, and industry events.
  • Deliver technical workshops and customer presentations.
  • Support marketing activities, lead generation campaigns, and content development.
  • Contribute market intelligence and customer feedback to support product development initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Proven experience in technical sales, applications support, or scientific instrumentation.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory environments and analytical techniques.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Self-motivated with strong commercial awareness and business development capabilities.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively throughout the UK and Ireland.

Desirable

  • Experience selling thermal analysis, rheology, calorimetry, materials characterization, or laboratory instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of industries such as polymers, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, chemicals, or academia.
  • Previous experience using CRM systems.
  • Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in a relevant scientific discipline.
