Job Title: Application Engineer (Technical Sales Manager)
Our client, Harvey Performance, a leading manufacturer of precision cutting tools, is seeking an Application Engineer (Technical Sales Manager) for their operations in the Midlands and North West regions of the UK.
About the Role
The Application Engineer plays a pivotal role in new business development, owning the growth and success of the HPC Europe product portfolio within a defined territory. This position focuses on supporting distributors in identifying new business opportunities and driving end-user demand by providing technical support, applying hands-on application knowledge, and field-based sales support.
In close collaboration with Inside Sales, Customer Service, and the Inside Tech Team, the Application Engineer solves application issues and sells HPC solutions. Additionally, they support distributor relationship management. In cases where the business is not routed through distribution, the Application Engineer takes responsibility for end-user account management. The Application Engineer drives and maintains end-user relationships, which represent 70% of their day-to-day activity. This is a field-based position with extensive travel expected to meet with distributors, end-users, and other key stakeholders in the assigned territory.
Key Responsibilities
End-User Support & Application Engineering
- Identify, develop, and convert a sales pipeline of CNC tooling and metal removal opportunities with end users.
- Deliver on-site technical support, including product testing, performance evaluation, and application consulting.
- Interpret technical specifications to recommend optimal tooling solutions.
- Identify customer pain points and propose solutions based on deep application expertise.
- Provide customer training, tool demonstrations, and follow-up test reports to support project closure.
- Handle all small-medium application opportunities, knowing when to incorporate more senior staff / management for elevated technical support when/if needed for key projects.
- Monetize all testing utilizing HPC provided tools and processes.

Distributor Enablement
- Supporting existing distributor partners through joint sales calls, customer application support/analysis, and product recommendations.
- Provide application training and coaching to distributor sales teams to enhance confidence and competence.
- Support distributor activities, events, demo days, and technical seminars.
- Train distributors on value-based selling and time/territory management best practices.
Account Management (Distributor or Direct End-User)
- Agreeing on priorities in account activities with different customer stakeholders.
- Negotiation and conversion of quotations for any offered solution into orders.
- Annual price adjustments according to company guidelines.
Business Development & Market Expansion
- Develop and execute territory growth strategies in collaboration with Distribution Managers.
- Support demand generation activities, including digital campaigns, lead follow-up, new customer acquisition, and trade shows.
- Build and maintain relationships with engineering, purchasing, and production staff at key customer sites.
- Partners with Distributor and DMR to develop annual financial forecasts for the defined territory.
Product & Market Insights
- Collaborate with Product Management and Engineering to provide customer feedback on product needs and new development opportunities.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer preferences to support strategic planning.
- Contribute to the development of new training programs, product content, and technical documentation.

CRM & Reporting
- Utilizes, manages, and maintains any/all sales activity through our CRM platform, including logging all calls, managing account contacts, reporting any activity and/or account communications.
- Compile, submit or present monthly required reports detailing territory activity, opportunity pipeline, market feedback and admin tasks.
Experience, Knowledge, and Key Skills
- Associates degree required; bachelor’s degree desired.
- Minimum of 5 years related industry experience.
- Consistent track record of meeting and exceeding expectations.
- Demonstrated strong technical aptitude in the application of cutting tools.
- Strong communication skills (written and oral).
- Proficiency in MS Office applications, and experience using CRM systems.
- Project Management Skills.
- Trade knowledge (work hard and rely on training to become competent in the role).
