Level: Manager

Reports to: Head of Technical SEO

Salary: £34,000-£38,000

Location: This role can be based in either our Manchester or Burscough office and includes hybrid working (three days in the office and two from home)

The core purpose of your job role.

The Technical SEO Manager is a key member of House Digital’s SEO team, responsible for delivering technical SEO performance across a portfolio of client accounts. Working alongside the Senior Technical SEO Manager and SEO Account Managers, they implement technical SEO strategy and hands-on delivery, ensuring our technical work directly improves client performance and aligns with business goals.

They contribute to the development of House’s technical SEO product offering, applying automation, AI and scalable processes to improve quality and efficiency. They also support knowledge sharing across the team and help build technical capability within the agency, growing into a trusted technical specialist.

The responsibilities, duties & tasks you are expected to deliver when performing your job role.

Technical strategy & implementation (65%)

  • Deliver technical SEO strategies for client accounts, aligned to commercial KPIs and business priorities.
  • Carry out core technical SEO products, including audits, health checks and migration support, ensuring recommendations drive measurable improvements in visibility, traffic and conversions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and clients to scope, prioritise and implement technical changes.
  • Apply AI Search best practices, helping ensure client websites are technically positioned for visibility across both traditional and AI-powered search experiences.
  • Carry out site performance diagnostics and resolutions – covering crawlability, indexation, Core Web Vitals, schema, JavaScript rendering, international SEO, and more.
  • Help maintain consistent standards and quality across technical SEO activity on your accounts.
  • Contribute to meaningful client reports and performance reviews, ensuring technical activity is clearly linked to outcomes.
  • Monitor and analyse client performance using server log analysis, crawl data, analytics platforms and dashboards.
  • Stay up to date on algorithm changes, SEO trends, AI Search developments and SERP innovations – proactively adjusting your approach in response.

Innovation & product development (10%)

  • Help improve the speed and quality of technical outputs by applying automation, dashboards, scripts, AI workflows and emerging search technologies.
  • Support the development and refinement of technical SEO services, helping make them scalable, impactful and easy to deliver.
  • Contribute to technical SEO templates, documentation and tools that enhance delivery within House.
  • Share ideas, frameworks and processes that help position House as a strong technical SEO agency.

Client consulting & communication (15%)

  • Act as a technical point of contact on your accounts – offering commercial, data-led advice in both written and verbal formats.
  • Join client meetings to present recommendations, explain technical issues and outline opportunities.
  • Identify and flag upsell and cross-sell opportunities across your client portfolio, and support the new business process.
  • Work closely with SEO Account Managers to ensure all technical deliverables are understood, implemented and integrated into the wider digital strategy.

People & culture (10%)

  • Mentor and support Digital Marketing Executives working on your accounts, helping grow technical confidence and capability.
  • Contribute to internal training sessions, knowledge shares and innovation sprints.
  • Add to a culture of continuous improvement, shared learning and technical excellence.
  • Support SEO team members and escalate risks to leadership where needed.
  • Ensure that timesheets are completed accurately and on time.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive and collaborative team culture.

In addition, you will be expected to undertake any other task, deemed to be reasonable and appropriate to this role, as directed by your line manager.


HOW you will deliver in the job role…

The knowledge and experience you are expected to apply when performing your job role.

  • 3+ years’ hands-on experience in technical SEO, ideally within an agency or consultancy setting.
  • Demonstrable experience of driving performance improvements through technical work on websites.
  • Experience supporting or delivering technical audits, website migrations, and JavaScript-heavy site optimisation.
  • Working knowledge of advanced SEO techniques, including server log analysis, rendering diagnostics, and international SEO.
  • Confident using key SEO tools such as Screaming Frog, Sitebulb, Ahrefs, Google Search Console, GA4 and Looker Studio.
  • Working knowledge of AI Search platforms, LLMs and emerging search technologies, and an understanding of how technical SEO contributes to visibility within these environments.
  • Experience collaborating directly with account/project managers, digital designers and marketers in an agile workflow.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to prioritise issues based on effort vs. impact.
  • Clear written and verbal communicator – comfortable simplifying technical topics for clients and internal stakeholders.
  • An analytical, proactive and results-oriented mindset.
