Pay Range
The pay range for this role will be £34,434 to £39,152 (pro rata for part-time colleagues). A national pay award is pending and once agreed will be applied from 1 April 2026 or backdated to when the new starter starts work with us.

Internal colleagues are also normally appointed at the bottom of the band, unless moving within the same profession and skill level, where the pay band is the same, they can be appointed to the existing pay point.
Role Purpose
We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Specialist to join our Subsidy and Service Improvement Team. The main purpose of the role is to carry out quality and integrity checking of claims, including subsidy and performance, and providing feedback to assist with service improvement.
Main Responsibilities
- Carry out quality checks of benefit assessments.
- Carry out integrity checks of the Housing Benefit payment run including checks of high-value payments.
- Review processing statistics and correct as required to ensure accurate reporting of performance.
- Process returned Housing Benefit payments in a timely manner.
- Support and train staff within the team.
- Use specialist knowledge to support other service areas through feedback.

The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for an individual with excellent technical knowledge of the Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support legislation, who can deal with complex customer issues, has an eye for detail, and a strong commitment to the delivery of a professional customer service.
Candidates Must Have
- Good interpersonal, communication, numeracy, and literacy skills.
- The ability to work with a wide range of people.
- The ability to support, train, and empower staff.
- A flexible approach to change and working practices.
- The ability to review data to ensure that decisions and payments are in line with procedures and legislative requirements.
