Technical Superintendent
Location: London
Type: Permanent, Full-Time, Hybrid
I am currently supporting a leading international shipping organisation in the search for an experienced Technical Superintendent to join their Fleet Team in London. This is an excellent opportunity to take responsibility for the technical performance and compliance of a modern fleet within a global, forward-thinking environment.
The Role
As Technical Superintendent, you will oversee the safe, efficient, and cost-effective technical management of assigned vessels. You’ll play a key role in ensuring compliance, driving performance improvements, and supporting vessel teams both onboard and ashore.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all technical matters across assigned vessels, ensuring safety remains the top priority
- Control budgets related to maintenance, repairs, dry docking, and modifications
- Plan and execute dry dockings, inspections, and vessel visits
- Maintain strong communication with vessel teams and senior onboard officers
- Monitor planned maintenance systems and ensure full compliance with ISM and regulatory standards
- Coordinate Class, Flag State, and Statutory surveys
- Conduct vessel visits to assess technical and crew performance, implementing corrective actions where needed
- Support, coach, and appraise onboard senior officers
- Participate in emergency response activities and incident investigations
- Monitor regulatory compliance (including environmental regulations such as EU ETS and MRV)
- Oversee contractors and service providers to ensure quality delivery
- Support newbuilding projects, including delivery and guarantee phases
- Drive continuous improvement, cost savings, and innovation across the fleet

About You

You are a technically capable and commercially aware marine professional with strong experience in vessel operations and shore-based management.
Essential:
- Chief Engineer (Unlimited) – STCW III/2
- Sailing experience as Chief Engineer (tankers preferred – crude or chemical)
- Experience as a Technical Superintendent (preferred)
- Strong knowledge of planned maintenance systems
- Experience with MAN ME/ME-C, ME-B, or ME-LGIM engines
- Fluent in English with excellent communication skills
