Salary: National Minimum Wage, with annual increases applied in line with government rates where applicable

Contract: Fixed Term for 24 Months

Hours: 37 hours per week

About the Role

Somerset Council's Property Service helps manage and maintain a wide range of council buildings across the county, including schools. The service plays an important role in ensuring these buildings remain safe, effective and fit for the people and communities who rely on them every day.

This is an exciting opportunity to start your career while earning and learning at the same time. As a Property Technical Support Assistant Apprentice, you'll gain valuable experience supporting a busy property team, learning how property services operate within a large organisation. Working alongside experienced colleagues, you'll develop practical finance, administration and data management skills while contributing to services that make a real difference across Somerset. How You'll Make a Difference

  • Assist with financial and administrative processes that enable the team to deliver effective services.
  • Support the smooth running of property services by helping to maintain accurate records, systems and information.
  • Respond to enquiries from colleagues, schools, contractors and suppliers, providing helpful and timely support.
  • Help produce reports and manage data that informs decisions about council properties.
  • Learn and contribute to service improvements, helping the team work efficiently and deliver the best possible outcomes.

What You'll Bring

  • Comfortable applying mathematical principles, including calculations, percentages and working with numerical data.
  • A positive attitude and enthusiasm for learning and developing new skills.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage your workload effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate work.
  • Confidence communicating with a range of people and providing excellent customer service.
  • Basic IT skills and a willingness to learn new systems and software.
  • GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent qualifications).

Apprenticeship Information

As part of this role, you will complete a Level 3 Accountancy Apprenticeship with Accountancy Learning.

Study will be predominantly virtual, allowing you to gain your qualification alongside practical workplace experience. Some meetings will be required in person at either County Hall, Taunton, or locations required by the training provider.

This apprenticeship provides an excellent opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification while developing valuable administration, finance, customer service and data management skills within Somerset Council.
