About The Role

We are partnering with a leading industrial service organization to recruit a 2nd Line IT Technical Support Engineer as part of a significant IT transformation program. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an IT professional to contribute to a major modernization initiative across multiple sites in Scotland and Northern England. The successful candidate will join a growing internal IT team, working closely with the Scottish IT Manager and the wider UK technology leadership team. The role involves providing operational support, troubleshooting infrastructure issues, and supporting project delivery to ensure the organization’s IT systems run efficiently and effectively. This position offers variety, autonomy, and the chance to be part of a transformative journey in a forward-thinking organization. Additionally, the role involves collaboration with global colleagues, offering exposure to international support models and strategic initiatives across the group.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess a solid foundation in IT support, coupled with a proactive approach and excellent communication skills. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a 2nd Line Support Engineer position, demonstrating strong troubleshooting capabilities across desktop, server, and Microsoft technologies. Knowledge of Microsoft 365 environments, Active Directory, and Entra ID is essential. Candidates should also have experience supporting antivirus, VPN, and MFA technologies, along with familiarity with remote monitoring and management tools. A full UK driving license is required, as travel to various sites across Scotland and Northern England will be necessary. While not mandatory, experience in networking (LAN/WAN, switching, routing, firewalls), telecoms or VoIP support, and multi-site environment support are considered advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 2nd line support across multiple UK locations, ensuring timely resolution of hardware, software, network, and user issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems related to desktops, servers, and Microsoft technologies.
  • Support and maintain Microsoft 365, Active Directory / Entra ID, and endpoint devices such as laptops, desktops, printers, and peripherals.
  • Install, configure, and maintain IT equipment, ensuring all systems are operational and up-to-date.
  • Monitor support and monitoring platforms, respond to alerts, and take necessary actions to prevent or resolve issues proactively.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, applications, and security teams to escalate and resolve issues effectively.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of support activities, configurations, and procedures to ensure knowledge sharing and compliance.
  • Participate in out-of-hours support rotations when necessary to minimize business disruption.
  • Travel to various sites across Scotland and Northern England to provide hands-on technical support and ensure consistent service delivery.
