Technical Support Lawyer

Department: Legal

Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Description

The Keoghs Casualty business unit is seeking to recruit a Qualified legal professional as a Technical Support Lawyer (TSL) to join our Public Sector Team. The TSL will lead a group of Delegated Authority handlers or assistants working on fixed fee files. Driving technical excellence in a commercial manner across all files.

This diverse role offers an excellent opportunity to train, mentor and develop others. The TSL will be key to driving innovative strategies and embedding Know Your Opponent practices.

The TSL will also carry their own small caseload of predominantly Multi Track files.

Key Responsibilities

The Technical Support Lawyer (TSL) will be responsible for:

  • The supervision and development of their aligned handlers and/or assistants and will lead, encourage and mentor them to deliver technical excellence.
  • Drive financial authority audits
  • Drive technical excellence
  • Ensure files are handled in a commercial manner
  • Devising strategies on files within sub-team and ensuring they are delivered.
  • Supporting the handlers to work economically on cases whilst delivering the best possible outcome for clients.
  • Embed any KYO strategies.
  • From time to time be required to support colleagues in client facing roles to support technically on designated clients
  • Be involved in client audits
  • Potential for face to face client meetings, training sessions, case surgeries and workshops and client socialising
  • Attend internal technical meetings and disseminate information to their team.
  • Devise and deliver training bespoke to the needs of their sub team, supported by PDPS

In addition, the TSL will carry their own caseload and be responsible for:

  • Building relationships with Keoghs clients
  • Manage a mixed caseload of complex public sector claims including el/pl claims, civil penalty appeals, data protection, equality act and human rights issues
  • Achieve targets in terms of chargeable hours, WIP and the collection of client MI

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Qualified Solicitor/CILEX
  • Experience of handling a caseload of EL/PL files up to £100k is essential
  • Previous litigation experience is essential
  • Previous supervision experience is essential
  • Experience in Public sector
  • Financial Authority of at least £25k
  • Good advocacy skills.
  • Positive, confident and enthusiastic.
  • Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent client care skills and evidence of working to client guidelines.
  • Ability to prioritise work, keep to deadlines and work under pressure.
  • High level of analytical skills.
  • Ability to make decisions and delegate effectively.
  • Ability to anticipate problems and identify solutions.
  • Ability to win the trust and confidence, inspire and motivate
  • The ability to demonstrate resilience
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Ability to act as a role model to others
