About the Role
Somerset Council's Waste Management Service helps keep our communities clean, safe and sustainable by supporting the delivery of waste collection, recycling and disposal services across the county. Working closely with residents, contractors and council teams, the service plays an important role in protecting the environment and enhancing quality of life for local people.
As a Technical Support Officer, you'll be part of a collaborative team that helps ensure essential waste services run smoothly every day. You'll provide vital administrative and customer support, helping to coordinate activities, maintain accurate information and respond to enquiries from residents and partners. This is a role where your organisation, attention to detail and communication skills will make a genuine difference to service delivery. How You'll Make a Difference
- Support the effective delivery of waste and recycling services, helping residents receive reliable services they can depend on.
- Build positive working relationships with residents, contractors and colleagues to resolve enquiries and improve customer experiences.
- Maintain accurate service records and data, providing information that supports planning, performance monitoring and decision-making.
- Deliver high-quality administrative support that helps the team coordinate activities efficiently and effectively.
- Contribute to service improvements and sustainability initiatives that benefit communities across Somerset.

What You'll Bring
- Experience of working in an administrative or business support role with a strong focus on accuracy and organisation.
- Experience of managing records and data, with excellent attention to detail and confidence using office systems and software.
- Strong skills in prioritising workloads, managing competing tasks and working efficiently in a busy environment.
- Confidence in communicating with a wide range of people and providing excellent customer service.
- Knowledge of waste management services or the ability to quickly learn processes, procedures and relevant regulations.
