Job Title
Technical Support Officer
Job Description
About Gas Safe Register
Gas Safe Register is the official gas registration body for the United Kingdom, Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey. By law, gas businesses and engineers must be registered to carry out gas work legally. The register helps protect the public from unsafe gas work by maintaining the official list of competent businesses and engineers, supporting inspections, investigating safety concerns and raising awareness of gas safety standards.
Capita delivers the Gas Safe Register service under a concession arrangement with the Health and Safety Executive and related authorities. Together, we help maintain gas safety standards and give consumers confidence that gas work is carried out safely, legally and professionally.
Why Join Us?

- Move into a varied support role where no two enquiries are the same.
- Influence safety awareness by helping stakeholders, gas businesses and the public understand key requirements.
- Contribute to technical publications, guidance and bulletins that support the wider industry.
- Join a service with a clear purpose: helping improve and maintain gas safety standards across the UK.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Respond to telephone, written and email enquiries from stakeholders, registered businesses and the general public, providing clear and professional technical guidance.
- Provide information and advice on gas safety, associated building industries and Nationally Accredited Certification Scheme for Individual Gas Fitting Operatives (ACS) matters.
- Support other Gas Safe Register departments with accurate technical guidance to help ensure compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards.
- Research, write, review and edit technical articles, publications and bulletins, ensuring information is accurate, consistent and easy to understand.
- Keep up to date with industry changes, technical standards and legislation so that advice remains current and reliable.
- Provide cover and support across technical areas when required, helping maintain high service standards.
- Promote Gas Safe Register positively across the gas industry, associated trades and the general public.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
