We are Hiring: Technical Support Officer
Employer: London Borough of Hackney
Location: Hackney, London
Rate: £172.37/day PAYE

Role Purpose

Support the responsive repairs and building maintenance service across approximately 5,000 social housing properties, carrying out inspections, diagnosing defects, preparing specifications/estimates, monitoring contractors and ensuring works are completed safely, compliantly and to a good standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect properties and investigate building defects, repairs, damp and disrepair.
  • Prepare specifications, estimates, reports and contract documentation.
  • Measure/re-measure works and apply Schedules of Rates.
  • Order and monitor repair and maintenance works.
  • Oversee contractors and the Council's DLO, including post-inspections.
  • Monitor quality, costs, progress and compliance with H&S and statutory requirements.
  • Support Section 20 consultation with leaseholders.
  • Liaise extensively with residents, tenants, leaseholders, contractors and internal Housing teams.
  • Investigate and respond to complaints and enquiries.
  • Maintain repair histories, databases, spreadsheets and stock-condition information.
  • Support budget management, procurement and value-for-money objectives.
  • Work in accordance with CDM 2015, Health & Safety legislation and Council policies.

Essential Candidate Profile

  • Experience in building maintenance / responsive repairs.
  • Strong knowledge of construction defects and defect pathology, ideally across domestic housing and high-rise properties.
  • Experience preparing estimates, specifications and contracts.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety and CDM 2015.
  • Experience managing/monitoring contractors and repair projects.
  • Strong resident/customer-facing communication skills.
  • Experience working with tenants and leaseholders.
  • Ability to use spreadsheets, databases and repair/asset management systems.
  • HNC/HND in a building-related discipline or equivalent experience.
