Technical Support Engineer – Mechanical

Reports To: Technical Support Manager

About the Role

The Technical Support Engineer will provide technical mechanical engineering support for Terberg DTS engineers and service support employees. This role ensures customer satisfaction by training deployed engineers to the highest standard, delivering effective customer service, and maintaining strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting specialist engine, electrical, and diagnostic work across all operational areas
  • Delivering technical training for internal technicians
  • Using technical manuals and diagnostic techniques to troubleshoot, repair, or replace defective machine parts and components
  • Operating with minimal supervision while adhering to all Health & Safety standards

Responsibilities

General responsibilities include:

  • Enforcing quality assurance and Health & Safety policies at all times, ensuring compliance with company and site requirements
  • Responding to all technical calls, providing support to Mobile Service Engineers through escalation processes
  • Assisting the service team with dispute resolution on technical issues
  • Integrating effectively within the Service Department

Technical execution & administration:

  • Selecting appropriate repair techniques, equipment, materials and safety measures (e.g. eye protection, suitable clothing)
  • Adhering to specific administrative procedures, including accurate inventory management
  • Ensuring fault finding, maintenance, and repairs strictly follow manufacturer’s instructions and the Company’s Safe System of Work

Health & Safety responsibilities:

  • Ensuring full comprehension of the Company’s Health & Safety Policy and compliance with all operational standards
  • Cooperating to meet terberg DTS (UK) Ltd’s statutory Health & Safety obligations in line with daily responsibilities

Flexibility & additional support:

  • Being available for additional hours, including out-of-hours callouts, as required
  • Engaging collaboratively with all departmental teams, especially where new projects or improvements are under development
  • Adapting to any additional tasks that support the purpose of the role or broader business needs

Qualifications and Experience Required

Qualifications:

  • City & Guilds Level 3 – Vehicle Mechanical and Electronic Systems Qualification (Maintenance and Repair) or equivalent

Experience:

  • Substantial industry experience in auto electrical fault diagnosis and repairs

    • Proficiency in use of electronic diagnostic equipment
    • Experience with a range of heavy goods and specialist vehicles
  • Valid UK driving licence

Desirable Additional Knowledge:

  • Current road traffic law awareness (e.g., speed limits, weight restrictions, driver’s hours regulations)
  • Specific knowledge of vehicle preventative maintenance aligned with manufacturer’s recommendations and Safe System of Work
  • Familiarity with Terberg Tugs
  • Proficiency in the operations of latest diagnostic systems
