Technical Trainer

Reports To: Technical & Field Service Operations Manager


About the Role

The Technical Trainer at Terberg DTS plays a critical role in the development and delivery of training programmes for engineers, ensuring they meet both internal and external qualifications, including IRTEC certifications. This role is responsible for:

  • Supporting the creation of training content and delivering aligned training programmes
  • Managing the accreditation process throughout the engineer journey
  • Delivering training to non-technical employees, such as Controllers, to enhance technical understanding and improve interactions with engineering teams

Key Responsibilities

Training Development & Delivery

  • Support the development of clear, accurate, and up-to-date training materials
  • Provide technical training for engineers at every stage, including:
    • Onboarding
    • Refresher training
    • Ongoing professional development
  • Deliver sessions on internal assessments and technical standards
  • Support the training and accreditation process for engineers—ensuring assessments (including IRTEC qualifications) are properly assessed and completed
  • Design and deliver comprehensive onboarding training for new engineers, ensuring they possess required skills and knowledge

Learning & Administrative Support

  • Create and maintain a structured 12-month learning schedule for engineers, with refresher and upskilling courses
  • Continuously review and update training materials to ensure compliance with current information, processes, and best practices
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to refine training content
  • Deliver technical training for:
    • Non-technical employees (e.g., Controllers)
    • External customers, on-site or at Elland HQ
  • Maintain training registers and carry out administrative tasks to support external training

Required Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • A minimum Level 3 Award in Education and Training (formerly PTLLS)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with an ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
  • Experience in creating and developing training content, including process mapping and instructional design
  • Proficiency in engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong organisational skills to manage multiple training initiatives and meet deadlines
  • A solid understanding of best practices in training delivery, adaptability to different learning styles, and a commitment to continuous improvement

Desirable

  • Proven experience in technical training (especially within the automotive sector)
  • Qualifications in training or teaching (e.g., PTLLS, Cert Ed)
  • Knowledge of engineering pathways and external IRTEC certification requirements
