About The Team

SRUC Veterinary Services provides disease surveillance and analytical testing via our Veterinary and Analytical Laboratory and our network of disease surveillance hubs situated throughout Scotland. We provide national veterinary disease surveillance for the Scottish Government and collaborate with APHA to support statutory disease control schemes.

Our Veterinary Services team are experts in animal disease diagnosis, and we process over one million animal and material samples each year. Close links with research and development activities within SRUC and in several other academic and research institutions ensure that our UK, EU and international clients benefit from practical support coupled with expert scientific advice.

Our suite of services supports clients like vets, farmers and pharmaceutical companies by providing diagnostic testing for farm livestock and companion animals, as well as livestock health schemes, livestock health planning, veterinary CPD courses and external quality assessment schemes.

The Opportunity

SRUC Veterinary Services processes approximately 600,000 samples each year from farmers and veterinary practitioners across the UK. As a Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting animal health diagnostics and health schemes by managing samples throughout their lifecycle, from receipt and registration through to reporting and customer communication.

You will provide technical, administrative and customer support within a fast-paced laboratory environment, ensuring samples are processed accurately and efficiently in accordance with Quality Management System (QMS) procedures and UKAS accreditation requirements. The role also includes supporting laboratory automation systems, equipment maintenance activities, and providing functional supervision and guidance to Laboratory Assistant/Administrators.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
