Opportunity Overview
We are looking for a Technician (Chemical Sciences) to join our technical team supporting laboratory teaching and project activity at the University of Salford.
This is a hands-on role for someone with practical experience in chemical, analytical, environmental or general wet chemistry laboratories. You will need a good grounding in Chemical Sciences, including chemical handling and storage, preparation of reagents and solutions, laboratory equipment and safe working practices.
Based primarily in our Cockcroft laboratories, you will have a core Chemical Sciences workload while working as part of the wider technical team and supporting other laboratory areas when required.
This is a fixed-term post until 31 May 2027.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare chemicals, reagents, solutions, materials and equipment for practical teaching and project activities.
- Prepare allocated laboratory activities, ensuring materials and equipment are ready and suitable for use.
- Operate and maintain general laboratory equipment, carrying out routine checks and troubleshooting faults where appropriate.
- Support safe laboratory operation, including chemical handling and storage, waste management and relevant laboratory documentation.
- Work collaboratively with academics, technicians, students and other laboratory users, supporting activity across the wider technical service when required.

About The Faculty And Technical Services
The technical team sits within the Faculty of Health, Community and Life Sciences (HCLS) and provides specialist technical support for teaching, projects and research across a broad range of laboratory-based disciplines.
This role will be based primarily within Cockcroft, where the technical team supports activity across Chemical, Environmental and Life Sciences. This includes working with academic colleagues and students from both HCLS and the School of Science, Engineering and Environment (SEE).
Our technicians work as one wider team, sharing skills and supporting activity across laboratory areas according to teaching and service needs. While this post has a core Chemical Sciences workload, you will work collaboratively with technical and academic colleagues across different subject areas.
