British American Tobacco UK has an exciting opportunity for a TECHNOLOGIST E-LIQUIDS (1 YEAR FIXED TERM CONTRACT) in Southampton

What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?

The key objective of this role is to support relevant e-liquid product development and capabilities for e-liquid products produced in the lab and pilot plant to drive continuous improvement in quality control and product safety for e-liquids, as part of BATs ambitions in the new technology development in vaping.

Responsibilities

  • E-liquid formulation production and supporting product development processes using defined work practices or procedures.
  • Engaging with internal product development teams.
  • Reviewing production reports and summarizing findings.

Tasks are achieved by detailed understanding of:

  • Product quality requirements
  • E-liquid chemistry
  • Analytical science
  • Techniques relevant to the analysis of consumer use products such as e-liquids and electronic cigarettes, aerosols and all materials associated with the construction or use of this type of product.

Experience and understanding of e-liquids formulations are preferable, including responsibility with conducting small batch sample preparation and hazardous material management. Role holders should have an efficient and organized approach to practical activities, time and data management and reporting as well as an empathic and collaborative working style.

Your Key Responsibilities Will Include

  • This Technologist role will formulate E-liquid formulations, in response to technical challenges defined by management, as part of continuous improvement of the e-liquids product development.
  • Conducting basic laboratory tests of products in accordance with the QC standards using pH meter, NIR, density, viscosity, flash point meter and more.
  • Planning – short and long-term management of all e-liquids formulation requests and using formal project management tools where necessary.
  • Work as part of a team and is responsible for operating in a manner that meets company standards for safety, security, environmental, quality, accuracy and efficiency.
  • Performs routine calibration, and maintenance of the laboratory instruments as required for normal lab operations.
  • Participate in job safety analysis and has good work area housekeeping/follows appropriate PPE.
  • Supports the laboratory ISO quality management system and audits.
  • Follow and promote Quality procedures and standards to enable the business to achieve and maintain excellent results.

What are we looking for?

Experience Required

  • Proven practical laboratory experience backed by knowledge of principles of sample preparation for measurement & analysis
  • Ability to plan and prioritize tasks based on business need
  • To have technical curiosity with problem solving skills
  • Excellent Interpersonal and communication skills and ability to collaborate with internal/external partners
  • Strong teammate who collaborates with peers to support critical projects and results with a positive "can-do" attitude and effective problem solver.

Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required

  • Ability to work self-sufficiently and under pressure maintain flexibility
  • Being a strong teammate who collaborates with peers to support critical projects results in a positive "can-do" attitude
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational and communication skills
  • Structured approach to work, able to prioritize, technical curiosity for product development
  • Ability to collaborate with internal or external partners

Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required

  • University degree (at least BSc) in Chemistry, Biochemistry or associated field

BENEFICIAL

  • Experience of making e-liquids in the lab
  • Sample and product quality testing.
  • Proven experience in analytical techniques.
