Job Title: Technical and Digital Project Manager

Contract type: Permanent
Location: London & Hybrid (2 days a week in our London office)
Team: Finance and Business
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
Salary: Competitive

This is a delivery-focused role for an experienced Project Manager who can operate comfortably at the intersection of business, technology, and change.

The successful candidate will be able to move between strategic discussions with senior leaders and detailed project delivery with technical teams, while maintaining a clear focus on outcomes, value, risk, and implementation.

Working closely with business leaders, technology teams, suppliers, and other stakeholders, the Project Manager will translate business requirements into deliverable technology and digital solutions and ensure that change is effectively embedded across the Royal Kennel Club.

The role will be expected to operate as a business partner and change leader, rather than simply as an administrator of project plans.

Qualifications - Essential

  • Recognised project management experience and/or qualification.
  • Strong practical experience of project delivery.

Qualification - Desirable

  • PRINCE2, Agile PM, PMP or equivalent project management qualification.
  • Scrum or Agile qualification.
  • Business analysis or change-management qualification.
  • ITIL or equivalent service-management knowledge.
  • Relevant technology or digital qualification.

Equivalent practical experience will be considered in place of formal qualifications.

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience managing technology, digital, or business transformation projects.
  • Demonstrable experience managing projects from initiation through to implementation and closure.
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Experience managing project budgets, resources, risks, issues, and dependencies.
  • Experience working with third-party technology suppliers.
  • Experience delivering technology-enabled business change.
  • Strong understanding of project governance and structured project delivery.
  • Experience of requirements gathering, testing, implementation, and business readiness.
  • Demonstrable ability to manage multiple projects or workstreams simultaneously.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience of ERP or enterprise business-system implementations.
  • Experience of Microsoft Dynamics 365 / Business Central / Finance & Operations.
  • Experience of Power BI, data, and reporting projects.
  • Experience of process automation and digital transformation.
  • Experience of cloud technologies and SaaS solutions.
  • Experience of cyber security or technology resilience projects.
  • Experience of data migration and system integration.
  • Experience working within a regulated or governance-focused environment.
  • Experience of Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid project methodologies.

Knowledge & Technical Skills:

  • Strong project planning and delivery skills.
  • Excellent understanding of project governance.
  • Strong financial and budget-management capability.
  • Good understanding of technology and digital environments.
  • Ability to understand systems architecture and integrations at an appropriate level.
  • Understanding of data, reporting, and information management.
  • Good understanding of cyber security, information security, and data protection principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Strong Microsoft 365 skills, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Familiarity with project management and collaboration tools.

Project Management

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of technology and digital projects.
  • Establish clear project objectives, scope, deliverables, milestones, and success measures.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, budgets, resource requirements, and delivery schedules.
  • Establish appropriate project governance, reporting, and decision-making structures.
  • Manage project dependencies across multiple business and technology workstreams.
  • Monitor progress against agreed plans and take proactive action where delivery is at risk.
  • Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with agreed methodologies, standards, and controls.
  • Coordinate project teams comprising business users, technology specialists, third-party suppliers, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage project closure, lessons learned, handover, and transition into business-as-usual operations.

Technology & Digital Transformation

  • Manage projects involving technology platforms, business systems, digital applications, data, infrastructure, and process automation.
  • Support the development and implementation of the RKC’s technology and digital roadmap.
  • Identify opportunities to use technology to simplify, standardise, and improve business processes.
  • Work with business teams to understand current processes and identify opportunities for digital transformation.
  • Ensure technology solutions address genuine business needs and deliver measurable value.
  • Support systems implementations, upgrades, integrations, migrations, and replacement programmes.
  • Coordinate testing, user acceptance testing, deployment, and implementation activities.
  • Ensure appropriate operational support and knowledge transfer are established before project completion.

Business Case & Benefits Management

  • Support the development of robust project proposals and business cases.
  • Define project costs, resource requirements, expected benefits, and key assumptions.
  • Establish measurable benefits and ensure these are tracked throughout and following implementation.
  • Monitor return on investment and identify opportunities to maximise project benefits.
  • Challenge project scope where proposed activity does not provide sufficient business value.
  • Ensure projects remain aligned with strategic priorities and organisational objectives.

Stakeholder Management

  • Build strong working relationships with senior leaders, business managers, technology teams, and external suppliers.
  • Act as the principal point of coordination between business stakeholders and technology delivery teams.
  • Facilitate workshops, requirements-gathering sessions, project meetings, and decision forums.
  • Communicate complex technology issues in clear, accessible business language.
  • Manage expectations and ensure stakeholders understand project progress, risks, issues, and decisions.
  • Provide constructive challenge where requirements, timelines, costs, or risks are unrealistic.
  • Build engagement and ownership across affected business areas.

Governance, Risk & Controls

  • Establish and maintain appropriate project governance arrangements.
  • Maintain project RAID logs covering Risks, Assumptions, Issues, and Dependencies.
  • Identify, assess, and actively manage project risks.
  • Escalate material risks and issues promptly and appropriately.
  • Monitor project expenditure and ensure appropriate financial controls are maintained.
  • Ensure appropriate information security, data protection, compliance, and technology controls are incorporated into projects.
  • Ensure supplier performance and contractual obligations are appropriately monitored.
  • Maintain a clear audit trail of key project decisions and approvals.

Change Management & Adoption

  • Ensure technology projects consider the impact of change on colleagues, customers, and business processes.
  • Work with business stakeholders to develop effective change, communication, and training plans.
  • Support business readiness assessments and implementation planning.
  • Ensure users are appropriately trained and supported before and after implementation.
  • Monitor adoption and identify barriers to successful implementation.
  • Ensure new technology and processes become embedded into business-as-usual operations.

Supplier & Commercial Management

  • Work alongside our Technology partner PSP to support the selection and onboarding of technology suppliers and implementation partners.
  • Manage supplier deliverables, milestones, performance, and dependencies.
  • Monitor supplier costs against agreed budgets and contracts.
  • Ensure supplier issues are identified and resolved promptly.
  • Work with Finance and Legal teams where appropriate.
  • Challenge supplier proposals and ensure the organisation receives appropriate value for money.
