Technology & Digital Regulation Associate / 3–6 PQE
About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Technology & Digital Regulation Associate with 3–6 years' PQE to join its established specialist legal team. This is a private-practice associate position and would suit a solicitor who has developed their post-qualified experience within a law firm, advising commercial clients across technology, data protection, privacy, digital regulation and commercial IT contracts. The successful candidate will ideally have 4+ years' PQE and a strong combination of GDPR/privacy expertise and hands-on commercial technology contracting experience. This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor looking to develop their career across both established and emerging areas of technology and digital regulation.
Key Responsibilities
- Advising commercial clients on technology, data protection, privacy and digital regulatory matters.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial technology agreements.
- Advising on SaaS and software licensing arrangements.
- Drafting and negotiating outsourcing, software development, maintenance and support agreements.
- Advising on distribution, reseller and agency agreements.
- Drafting and negotiating end-user licence agreements and consumer terms.
- Advising on open-source licensing.
- Advising clients on GDPR and wider data protection and privacy matters.
- Drafting and reviewing privacy notices, data processing agreements and transfer arrangements.
- Advising on data protection impact assessments and internal privacy policies.
- Assessing new products, services and features against applicable digital regulation.
- Advising on emerging UK and EU digital regulatory requirements.
- Supporting clients on matters involving AI, online platforms, ePrivacy and advertising technology.
- Advising on cybersecurity and associated regulatory risk.
- Negotiating with counterparties and providing commercially focused legal advice.
- Working directly with clients and senior stakeholders.
- Supporting marketing and business development initiatives.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the wider legal team.

About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- 3–6 years' PQE as a Solicitor in England & Wales.
- 4+ years' PQE would be particularly attractive.
- Current or recent private practice experience is essential.
- Experience working at associate level within a law firm.
- Strong experience advising clients on GDPR and data protection/privacy.
- Hands-on experience drafting and negotiating SaaS, outsourcing, software licensing, distribution or EULA agreements.
- Experience advising on commercial technology contracts.
- Experience of digital regulation within the UK and/or EU.
- Practical experience of emerging digital regulatory regimes would be advantageous.
- Experience in areas such as AI, adtech, ePrivacy, online safety or platform regulation would be beneficial.
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence dealing directly with clients and senior stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- A methodical and detail-focused approach to work.
- The ability to manage multiple matters and competing deadlines.
- A genuine interest in technology and the rapidly evolving digital regulatory landscape.

Candidates whose experience is primarily focused on outsourced DPO services, compliance consultancy or consultancy-based privacy work are unlikely to be suitable for this particular opportunity.

The Opportunity
This role would suit a Technology, Digital Regulation, Data Protection or Commercial Technology Solicitor with 3–6 years' PQE, with 4+ PQE particularly sought, who has built their post-qualified career within private practice. The strongest candidates will combine GDPR/privacy expertise with meaningful commercial IT contracting experience, particularly across SaaS, outsourcing, software licensing, distribution and EULAs, alongside practical exposure to emerging digital regulatory issues.
