IT Technology Lead/Manager | Not for Profit | London (office-based)
Location: London Bridge - on-site
Salary: £65-85k

Our client is a fast-growing, mission-led not for profit. A small, passionate technical team operates like a miniature start-up inside the organisation, turning a wide range of data sources into a cohesive understanding of the problems their researchers are tackling. As the organisation grows toward 50 staff, they need someone to take ownership of the computing environment that makes that work possible.
THE ROLE
This is a standalone, senior individual-contributor role, not a people-management position, reporting to the organisation's Technology and Cyber Security Director. You'll be the internal owner of a broad and evolving remit: corporate laptops and devices, Windows and Linux research systems, local servers, cloud platforms (Google Cloud, Microsoft 365) and local AI-processing hardware being stood up in an external data centre.
You'll work alongside the organisation's existing third-party IT provider, who handle first-line support, freeing you to focus on infrastructure ownership, project engineering and higher-level operational responsibility. It's a genuinely blank-slate opportunity to define strategy, build scalable processes, and shape how a growing research organisation runs its computing environment, with the freedom to lean into whichever areas interest you most, from networking and data-centre infrastructure to LLM/AI hardware.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN
- The organisation's full corporate and research computing estate: laptops, desktops, peripherals, local servers, asset management and lifecycle processes
- Practical, hands-on support for staff and researchers across devices, access, connectivity and productivity
- The operation and improvement of local and cloud infrastructure, working closely with the wider technical team
- The development of research computing capability, including cloud platforms, data infrastructure and the hardware behind LLM/AI workloads
- Vendor and budget management, including the relationship with the organisation's external IT provider
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Essential:
- Hands-on experience supporting Windows and Linux laptops/desktops
- Solid IT fundamentals: networking, identity, endpoint management, security, patching, asset management
- Experience with physical servers and working across on-premises and cloud (Google Cloud) environments
- Strong documentation habits and a security-conscious, least-privilege mindset
- Comfort working independently as the sole internal owner of computing, in close collaboration with the Technology and Cyber Security Director, external provider and internal stakeholders
- Willingness to stay hands-on with equipment; this isn't a role for someone looking to manage a large support team from a distance

Technical environment includes:
- Windows & Linux computing
- Microsoft 365 administration, especially Intune
- Small office networking (UniFi switches, access points, VLANs, firewalls)
- Basic scripting/automation (PowerShell, Bash or Python)
- Interest in research computing, GPU/LLM hardware or AI-enabled workflows
WHO THRIVES HERE
We're open to backgrounds: infrastructure professionals, managed-service or IT consultants looking to move in-house, or anyone drawn to hands-on ownership in a mission-led non-profit environment.
LOCATION
London, fully office-based. The physical nature of the role, managing devices, equipment and infrastructure, means regular on-site presence is a genuine requirement, though some flexibility on hours may be possible.
