Technology Manager
Location: Chorley, Lancashire
Salary: Up to £55,000
Working Pattern: Full time office for initial 6 months, then hybrid 3 days in, 2 days from home.
Employment Type: Permanent
We are working with an established and growing regulated business in Chorley that is looking to appoint a Technology Manager into its Technology & BI function. This is a newly structured leadership position designed to bring greater coordination, visibility and delivery discipline across the wider technology department.
Reporting directly to the Head of Technology & BI, you'll sit across multiple technology functions including:
- Infrastructure
- Data & BI
- Software Development
- Technology Change
- Wider technology projects and initiatives
You'll have direct responsibility for an Infrastructure Manager, Data Analyst & Reporting Specialist and Senior C#/.NET Software Engineer.
Importantly, this is not a hands-on technical leadership position. The individual specialists will retain ownership of their respective technical areas. Your role is to create the structure around them – understanding what needs delivering, what takes priority, what capacity exists, where dependencies or risks sit and ensuring the wider business has clear visibility of progress.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll own and coordinate the overall Technology delivery portfolio, creating a single view across active projects, planned work, deadlines, resources and dependencies. Responsibilities will include:
- Owning the overall Technology departmental roadmap and delivery plan
- Translating technology strategy into structured, achievable workstreams
- Establishing a clear process for incoming projects and change requests
- Prioritising work against business requirements, capacity and existing commitments
- Coordinating delivery across Infrastructure, Data & BI, Software Development and Change
- Creating clear ownership, scope, outcomes and delivery dates for technology initiatives
- Providing consolidated delivery reporting to senior stakeholders
- Identifying risks, dependencies and resource constraints
- Facilitating prioritisation decisions where demand exceeds available Technology capacity
- Supporting annual and quarterly departmental planning
- Introducing consistent project governance and delivery methodologies
- Improving how technology work is requested, assessed, prioritised and delivered
- Developing the overall Technology departmental operating model
- Working closely with functional specialists without taking away their technical ownership

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

A significant part of the opportunity is improving the Technology operating model – creating clear routes through which requests enter the department and are assessed, prioritised, allocated, monitored and ultimately implemented.
What We're Looking For
We're particularly interested in candidates who have operated across a multi-disciplinary technology function rather than solely managing one technical discipline.
You'll ideally bring:
- Experience managing or coordinating technology delivery across multiple workstreams
- Strong technology portfolio, programme, project or delivery management experience
- Experience building and maintaining technology roadmaps
- Strong prioritisation and capacity-planning skills
- Experience translating technology strategy into deliverable plans
- Confidence managing competing business requirements
- Strong governance, reporting and stakeholder management experience
- Experience working with technical specialists across areas such as Software, Infrastructure, Data or Change
- Confidence communicating with senior leadership
- The ability to challenge priorities constructively
- Strong organisational and planning capability
- Enough technical understanding to communicate effectively with specialists without needing to be the technical expert
- Experience improving delivery processes and operating models
- Experience within an FCA-regulated, financial services, insurance or similarly regulated environment would be advantageous, particularly given the organisation operates against FCA and ISO 9001 requirements.
