Location: Hybrid working - SSC offices in Coventry or London, plus home. Teams come together approximately 2-4 times per month.
About the team
As a Technology Manager within the Argos Commercial Technology team, you will be responsible for overseeing and integrating a range of SaaS solutions and in-house built applications that support key commercial functions across the business. Working closely with multiple teams, you will help drive technology solutions that enable areas such as Supplier Management, Pricing, Promotions, and other critical commercial capabilities.
A significant part of the role involves managing and collaborating with external technology partners, making strong stakeholder management and vendor relationship experience essential for success.
You will partner with Product and business stakeholders to make value-driven technology decisions that deliver the greatest benefit to our customers and organisation. The role also offers opportunities to leverage emerging AI technologies to accelerate delivery and improve speed to market.
What you'll do
As the Technology Manager, you will play a central role in the critical transformation of technology delivery, working closely with internal and external teams in a matrix organisation to achieve success of business strategy.
With a focus on delivering services that meet customer and colleague requirements, you will contribute to the service strategies for respective products / functional areas, ensuring alignment with the operating framework and technology principles.
Your responsibilities include driving a culture of personal accountability and ownership, coaching others to understand technical approaches, building collaborative relationships with stakeholders, managing budgets and finances for change and run activities, ensuring technical assurance and delivery, as well as overseeing service and risk management activities to ensure high-quality service provision and continuous improvement.

Who you are
- As a Technology Manager, you are a highly experienced professional with a proven track record in leading and transforming Technology delivery.
- With your extensive knowledge of large-scale third-party technology suppliers and product portfolios, product and vendor selection procedures, Agile and waterfall delivery practices, and service management frameworks, including ITIL, you play a critical role in assuring the technology service and delivery provision for your tower.
- Your strong leadership skills, coupled with your ability to build collaborative relationships and drive a culture of personal accountability, enable you to effectively lead and coach internal and external engineering teams to deliver changes and enhancements to products at pace.
- You demonstrate a deep understanding of technology concepts and possess excellent commercial acumen, allowing you to drive continuous improvement and ensure the delivery of fit-for-purpose, innovative infrastructure and applications.
- Your strong communication and influencing skills, along with your ability to navigate ambiguity and make informed decisions, contribute to the overall success of Sainsbury's Tech and the achievement of the business strategy.
Essential Criteria
- In-depth experience of working with large-scale third-party technology suppliers in complex, large scale organisations
- Detailed Knowledge of Integration using KAFKA, Kubernetes, AWS and Databases, so you can support development teams
- Managing 3rd party technology teams and suppliers which an emphasis on managing supplier relationships and ensuring key deliverables.
- Experience of service management, including an understanding and experience of ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) Service Management framework
- Stakeholder Management
- Evidence of managing budgets in excess of £1m
