The Technology Underwriter
The Technology Underwriter will be focused on the Technology and Cyber products within the PFR & Cyber division. The Technology team manages a diverse portfolio spanning large multi-nationals, mid-market firms, and SMEs across international and US-domiciled risks. We have a number of products catering for Technology clients including combined offerings (PI, Cyber, Property, EL & GL) and offer Multinational capabilities through our syndicate and company capacity. We offer a flexible and growth-focused platform, for ambitious individuals looking to build their profile and career.

Business Unit Overview
Professional & Financial Risks (PFR) focus on international and UK-domiciled business and can deploy capacity of £10m/ €15m/ $20m on any one risk. The team is made up of three business lines, Cyber & Technology, Management Liability, and Financial Institutions. We provide an excellent service via our expert underwriters who have a flexible and innovative approach to underwriting that ensures that we can provide the product required for our customers.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Help in raising the profile of Markel and the team in Tech. Demonstrate a strategic and structured approach to broker development, communicate the Markel story to brokers and customers in a compelling and credible way that supports the brand. Help to develop and maintain strong working relationships within Markel.
- Contribute innovation within the product suite providing expert input into the creation of new products and proactive input into the refinement of existing products or the services relating to the product. Seek to regularly analyse competitors’ products, capabilities, and appetite and share within the team.
- Proactively develop, own, and enhance our customer offering within Tech, actively engaging with customers to identify their needs and provide solutions to problems, as well as seeking new ways to enhance the customer experience.
- Take the lead in developing and managing key, Tech-specific broker relationships. Actively lead and manage pipelines for the team. Influence brokers and advance Markel’s interests through strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Identify new distribution and Delegated/Coverholder opportunities and where appropriate implement them.
- Manage your own renewal book of business in line with appetite and strategy, including combined ratio targets.
- Keep abreast of Tech package-related product development and knowledge, and use this to lead on product development within the team.
- Actively market and promote Markel and our Tech offering in the insurance market.
- Review and underwriting of new and renewal risks using technical rating model.

Key Skills
- Have experience underwriting or broking within Technology and cyber lines.
- Have strong technical knowledge within Technology and Cyber lines.
- Have excellent relationships within the Technology market across a range of brokers.
- Previous Property and Casualty Underwriting experience would be beneficial.
- Multinational placement experience would be beneficial.
- Demonstrate a collegiate mentality and be able to work within a team of Underwriters.
- Demonstrate a proactive and entrepreneurial approach.
- Be computer literate and have the ability to develop a full understanding and capability of in-house and MS systems.
