Telecoms Engineering Lead

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Telecoms Engineering Lead to provide technical leadership and assurance across the design, development, and delivery of telecommunications systems for major capital projects. This is a senior engineering position responsible for ensuring telecoms solutions are safe, reliable, scalable, secure, and aligned with project, industry, and regulatory requirements.
Working across the full project lifecycle, from Pre-FEED and FEED through execution, commissioning, and operational handover, you will drive engineering excellence, manage technical risk, and act as the focal point for telecoms engineering decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design assurance and technical governance of telecommunications systems across all project phases.
- Develop, maintain, and improve telecoms engineering standards, specifications, and design practices.
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, regional regulations, cybersecurity requirements, and project objectives.
- Review and approve critical engineering deliverables, calculations, technical studies, and system architectures.
- Provide technical oversight of contractor and vendor engineering activities, ensuring quality, consistency, and value.
- Lead technical bid evaluations and support vendor selection activities.
- Identify and resolve design issues during early project development to minimise cost and schedule impacts.
- Assess and manage technical risks, providing recommendations on deviations and alternative solutions.
- Ensure successful integration of fibre optic, wireless, communication, monitoring, and digital systems.
- Support project digitalisation strategies and ensure systems are ready for operational handover.
- Evaluate existing telecoms infrastructure and determine integration feasibility for new project systems.
- Apply engineering expertise to optimise telecoms performance, reliability, maintainability, and lifecycle costs.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to identify opportunities for innovation and value creation.
- Promote the adoption of new technologies, engineering tools, and best practices.

- Significant experience leading telecoms engineering within large-scale infrastructure, energy, industrial, or EPC projects.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Fibre optic networks
- Wireless communication systems
- Telecommunications infrastructure
- Network monitoring systems
- Cybersecurity requirements
- Industrial communications and data networks
- Experience across FEED, detailed design, execution, commissioning, and operational support.
- Proven ability to manage engineering contractors, consultants, and equipment vendors.
- Strong understanding of telecoms standards, regulatory compliance, and engineering assurance processes.
- Excellent stakeholder management, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to make sound technical decisions using a risk-based approach.
Ideal Experience
- Major capital projects within oil & gas, energy transition, utilities, chemicals, mining, transport, or industrial sectors.
- Technical bid evaluations and vendor management.
- Digital transformation and operational technology integration projects.
- Telecoms system integration, troubleshooting, simulation, and performance optimisation.
