The Opportunity
We're working with a well-established and growing business to find an experienced Field Engineer to join their team. This is a hands-on, field-based role covering the Northwest of England, with occasional travel further afield, and is central to how the business delivers high-quality on-site installations and support across its client base.
The Role
You'll be responsible for delivering professional on-site installations, maintenance and support services, with a strong focus on structured network cabling, IT infrastructure and telecoms systems. You'll work across a wide variety of customer sites — from small offices to larger commercial environments — often acting as the face of the business on-site. To succeed in this role, you'll need to be technically competent, well organised, and confident working independently while keeping clear communication with clients, suppliers and internal teams.
What You'll Be Doing
Installation & Field Work
- Install, terminate and test structured cabling systems (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, fibre where required)
- Install and configure IT and telecoms equipment, including desktop PCs, laptops, network switches, routers, Wi-Fi access points and VoIP systems
- Carry out full site installations, including cabinet/rack builds, patch panel terminations and cable management
- Conduct site surveys and provide recommendations for network and IT infrastructure improvements
- Ensure all installations meet industry standards and best practice, including health and safety compliance

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
