Telephone Business Development Manager (TBDM)

Location: Manchester

Key Purpose

To drive new business origination and revenue growth by developing and maintaining strong relationships with introducers, brokers, and prospective customers. The Telephone Business Development Manager acts as the first point of contact for new enquiries, qualifying opportunities, promoting the company's lending proposition, and supporting deals through to application stage whilst delivering an exceptional customer and broker experience.

Key Accountabilities

Business Development

  • Generate new lending opportunities from existing and prospective broker relationships.
  • Conduct proactive outbound calling campaigns to introduce and promote the company's products and services.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with commercial finance brokers and key introducers.
  • Identify opportunities to maximise lending volumes across all product lines.
  • Achieve individual and team targets relating to enquiry generation, applications, and completions.

Relationship Management

  • Act as the primary point of contact for brokers and prospective customers during the initial stages of the lending process.
  • Develop a detailed understanding of introducers' business models, client profiles, and funding requirements.
  • Maintain regular contact with key introducers to increase engagement and repeat business.
  • Deliver a high standard of service to encourage long-term partnerships and customer retention.

Deal Qualification

  • Assess enquiries against lending criteria and appetite.
  • Gather key information relating to borrowers, securities, loan purpose, affordability, and exit strategy.
  • Provide indicative terms and guidance where appropriate.
  • Present qualified opportunities to underwriting teams with clear and comprehensive handovers.

Pipeline Management

  • Maintain accurate records of all interactions and opportunities within the CRM system.
  • Effectively manage and progress a sales pipeline to maximise conversion rates.
  • Monitor enquiry volumes, application progression, and completion performance.
  • Provide regular updates and forecasting information to management.

Market Awareness

  • Remain up to date with commercial property finance market trends, competitor activity, and lending criteria.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, service levels, and product offerings.
  • Promote the company's brand, reputation, and service proposition within the intermediary market.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong telephone-based sales and relationship management skills.
  • Proven ability to build rapport and influence decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to assess financial information and identify lending opportunities.
  • Strong objection handling and negotiation skills.
  • Commercial awareness and business acumen.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple enquiries and priorities simultaneously.
  • Competent in CRM systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to service excellence.

Knowledge & Qualifications

Essential

  • Previous experience in a telephone sales, business development, or account management role.
  • Experience within commercial finance, property finance, banking, specialist lending, mortgages, or financial services.
  • Understanding of the commercial property finance market and lending process.
  • Knowledge of commercial mortgages, buy-to-let lending, bridging finance, and development finance.

Desirable

  • CeMAP qualification or equivalent financial services qualification.
  • Experience working with brokers and intermediary-introduced business.
  • Knowledge of underwriting principles and credit risk assessment.
