Role Overview
We are recruiting a Telesales colleague to join our Whetstone branch. This is a customer-focused sales role responsible for handling telephone enquiries, developing customer relationships and supporting the branch in achieving its sales and service targets. The successful candidate will be confident speaking with trade and retail customers, organised in their approach and motivated to provide accurate product advice and a professional service at every opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle incoming telephone enquiries from trade and retail customers, providing prompt, friendly and professional assistance.
- Identify customer requirements and recommend suitable timber, fencing and building materials based on product knowledge and customer needs.
- Prepare accurate quotations, process sales orders and confirm product availability, pricing, delivery details and collection arrangements.
- Proactively contact existing and potential customers to generate sales, follow up quotations and develop long-term customer relationships.
- Work closely with the branch yard, transport and management teams to ensure orders are prepared and delivered in line with customer expectations.
- Maintain accurate customer, order and quotation information using branch systems and company procedures.
- Identify opportunities to introduce additional products and services that meet customer requirements and support branch sales targets.
- Resolve customer queries and complaints professionally, escalating issues to the appropriate colleague or manager when required.
- Keep up to date with product ranges, pricing, promotions and industry developments to provide accurate and helpful advice.
- Comply with company policies and procedures including health and safety, data protection and customer service standards.

Person Specification
- Previous experience in telesales, internal sales, customer service or a trade counter environment (essential).
- Experience within a builders’ merchants, timber, fencing or building materials environment (desirable).
- Confident and professional telephone manner with the ability to build rapport with a wide range of customers.
- Strong sales and negotiation skills with a proactive approach to following up enquiries and securing orders.
- Good product awareness and the ability to understand customer requirements and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Accurate and organised, with the ability to manage multiple enquiries, quotations and orders effectively.
- Good numeracy and literacy skills with attention to detail when checking prices, quantities and order information.
- Comfortable using computers, email, CRM or sales order systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Team player who works well with telesales, yard, transport and management colleagues across the branch.
- Reliable, commercially aware and motivated to achieve individual and branch sales targets.
- Commitment to delivering excellent customer service and building lasting customer relationships.

Working Hours, Salary And Benefits
- Full-time, permanent position based at our Whetstone branch.
- Working hours are Monday to Friday 07.30 - 17.00 and 1 in 3 Saturdays working 08.00 - 12.00.
- Competitive salary dependent on experience (£38,000 - £42,000).
- 25 days holiday per year plus bank holidays and an additional celebration day, rising with service in line with company policy.
