Role Overview

We are recruiting a motivated Telesales professional to join our branch in Romford. This customer-focused sales role involves handling telephone enquiries, developing customer relationships, and generating sales of building materials to trade and retail customers. The successful candidate will be confident communicating by telephone, commercially aware, and committed to providing excellent customer service while achieving sales targets.

Main Responsibilities

  • Handle inbound and outbound telephone calls with trade, retail, and account customers in a professional and helpful manner.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing customers, identifying opportunities to increase sales and repeat business.
  • Respond promptly to customer enquiries, providing accurate product, pricing, availability, and delivery information.
  • Process customer orders accurately, confirming product specifications, quantities, delivery requirements, and payment details where required.
  • Promote building materials, products, services, special offers, and account facilities to meet customer needs and support branch sales.
  • Generate new business through proactive outbound calling, following up quotations, and re-engaging dormant or lapsed customers.
  • Prepare and follow up quotations, converting suitable opportunities into confirmed orders.
  • Work closely with branch colleagues, suppliers, transport teams, and other departments to ensure customer orders are fulfilled accurately and on time.
  • Check stock availability, lead times, and product information, escalating queries or supply issues promptly when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate customer, sales, quotation, and order records on company systems.
  • Resolve customer queries and complaints efficiently, taking ownership through to a satisfactory outcome.
  • Achieve agreed sales, margin, call activity, and customer service targets while maintaining a high standard of service.
  • Keep up to date with product ranges, pricing, promotions, market developments, and competitor activity.
  • Follow company policies and procedures relating to sales, credit control, data protection, health and safety, and customer service.
  • Support the wider branch team during busy periods and contribute to a positive, professional, and team-focused working environment.

Person Specification

  • Previous experience in telesales, internal sales, sales administration, customer service, or a similar telephone-based role.
  • Experience within a builders’ merchants, construction, building materials, trade, or distribution environment is essential.
  • Confident and professional telephone manner, with the ability to build rapport and influence customer buying decisions.
  • Customer focused, commercially aware, and motivated to achieve sales and service targets.
  • Strong communication and listening skills, with the ability to understand customer requirements and recommend suitable products.
  • Organised and accurate, with good attention to detail when processing orders, quotations, and customer information.
  • Resilient and proactive, with the confidence to make outbound sales calls and follow up business opportunities.
  • Good negotiation and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage customer queries and resolve issues effectively.
  • Comfortable using telephone systems, CRM, or sales order systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with branch colleagues, customers, suppliers, and delivery teams.
  • Reliable, adaptable, and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced sales environment.
  • Knowledge of building materials and trade customer requirements would be beneficial, although product training will be provided.

Working Hours, Salary and Benefits

  • ⏰ Working hours are Monday - Friday 07.30 - 17.00 plus 1 in 2 Saturdays 08.00 - 12.00.
  • 🏖️ 25 days holiday entitlement plus 8 UK Bank Holidays and an additional celebration day.
  • 💵 Competitive Salary (dependant on experience £33,000 - £38,000)
