Job Title: Temporary Head Chef
Starts ASAP - Monday to Friday 8am-5pm
Enhanced DBS Needed
We’re seeking an experienced Temporary Head Chef to lead the kitchen at a children’s nursery in Macclesfield.
This is an opportunity to use your kitchen leadership skills to provide nutritious, well-prepared meals for children while maintaining a safe, organized, and welcoming nursery kitchen.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Temporary Head Chef, you’ll oversee the nursery kitchen’s daily operations. Your duties will include:
- Planning and preparing nutritious meals and snacks for children.
- Following menus, recipes, portion requirements, and dietary guidance.
- Managing meals for children with allergies, intolerances, and other dietary needs.
- Leading kitchen operations and supporting staff to deliver a reliable meal service.
- Maintaining high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness, and kitchen organization.
- Managing stock, checking deliveries, and following food storage and rotation procedures.
- Following food safety, allergen, and health and safety procedures.

Head Chef Role Expectations
You’ll be expected to lead the kitchen confidently in a nursery environment and ensure meals are prepared safely, consistently, and on time. You’ll help maintain accurate allergen information, manage kitchen resources responsibly, and contribute to a positive mealtime experience for children.
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience as a Head Chef or in a senior kitchen leadership role.
- Experience in a nursery, school, care, hospitality, or commercial kitchen is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of food hygiene, food safety, and allergen management.
- Ability to plan and prepare balanced meals for children with varied dietary requirements.
- Strong organization, communication, and team leadership skills.
- A reliable, adaptable, and professional approach to temporary assignments.
- A commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of children.
- A DBS check may be required for this role.
