Operations Manager for Greeting Card Company

RossJDesigns is a small greeting card company based in Peebles and run by Ross Jardine. It has grown significantly in the past year and this growth has led to a major increase in sales. To ensure this continues while Ross is managing other parts of the business, an Operations Manager is required to maintain the shop and complete the orders from the end of October 2026 to the beginning of January 2027.

This role is ideally for someone who has an eye for detail, is accurate, efficient and good at time management. It's not overly complicated and quite therapeutic once you get into it!

About the Role

Principally, you will be printing, packing and shipping orders of greeting cards from your own home. All sales are made online (through Etsy and RossJDesigns website) and the main requirement is that they are shipped within two business days of ordering. This allows for lots of flexibility in your hours, and can work around other commitments you may have.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

All supplies (laptop, printers, card, envelopes etc.) will be provided and installed/tested prior to start date. It is important that you have a good desk (minimum size 500x1200mm) and room for a large desktop printer and supplies. You also need a good internet connection and to be within close proximity to a post box and post office (or be willing to go to one every day). The room you will be working in should not be damp as this can warp the cards.

I am based in Peebles so ideally I'm looking for someone local that I can pop round with materials etc. If located in Edinburgh this may also work too.

Pay and Hours

Pay is 18% of revenue and is paid every two weeks. Based on current projections, earnings will be around £2,500-£3,500 per month though this will vary depending on how busy the shop is.

Hours are likely to average to 4-6 hrs per day in November and 6-8 hrs per day in December (assuming working Mon-Fri). Mondays will tend to be very busy due to orders over the weekend unless you decide to do work Sat/Sun. After December 20th, orders will die down significantly.

Once fully trained, your wage can be £25+/hr but you will be paid a minimum of £15/hr, regardless of the number of orders. This will give you time to get used to the process. Unfortunately, I can't be more accurate on the exact hours so some flexibility is required here.

Contract Period

The contract will start on Monday 26th October 2026 and end on Friday 8th January 2027 though there is some flexibility here.

Key Perks

  • 10 Free cards
  • Free custom design by Ross (if you want)
  • No strict hours - just shipping deadlines
  • All done from your own home
