Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC)
Reporting to: BUGM Business Unit: GGP
Purpose of the Position
The Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) is responsible for coordinating all aspects of temporary works to ensure their safe design, installation, use, and removal across projects. The role supports the safe and compliant delivery of works in accordance with:
- Industry standards
- Legal requirements
- Company procedures
- BS 5975
Responsibilities & Duties
To include—yet not be limited to—the following key tasks:
- Act as the focal point for all temporary works activities on allocated projects
- Coordinate temporary works between:
- Designers
- Site teams
- Subcontractors
- Clients to ensure safe and efficient delivery
- Ensure all temporary works are planned and managed according to BS 5975 and company procedures
- Prepare and issue design briefs, capturing all relevant site constraints and requirements
- Review temporary works designs for:
- Buildability
- Compliance
- Alignment with the design brief
- Ensure all designs are:
- Protocollingly checked
- Approved
- Submitted (where applicable) for third-party approval prior to implementation
- Maintain a Temporary Works Register, including:
- Design approvals
- Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS)
- Inspection records
- Permits
- Manage and control hold points via:
- Permits to load/unload/proceed
- Ensuring works are safe to commence and use
- Oversee installation, inspection, maintenance, and dismantling of temporary works in line with:
- Approved designs
- Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS)
- Conduct or coordinate regular inspections and audits, identifying:
- Compliance risks
- Non-conformances
- Identify, assess, and mitigate temporary works-related risks
- Stop and report unsafe practices where necessary
- Collaborate with:
- Construction Managers
- Engineers
- Site Supervisors
- To integrate temporary works with permanent works
- Provide guidance and support to site teams on:
- Temporary works procedures
- Best practice

Person Specification
Qualifications & Experience
- Civil or Structural Engineering qualification (minimum HNC/HND; degree desirable)
- CITB Temporary Works Coordinator Training (or equivalent) – essential
- SMSTS (or equivalent) – desirable
- Proven experience as a Temporary Works Coordinator (or similar role)
- Strong knowledge of:
- BS 5975
- CDM Regulations
- Construction methods
- Engineering principles
- Site safety
- Infrastructure, utilities, or power sector experience (desirable)
