RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning and Coordination

  • Act as the single point of contact for all temporary works on site (airside and landside). Coordinate between designers, subcontractors, and site teams to ensure all temporary works are properly designed, reviewed, and approved before use.
  • Maintain and update the Temporary Works Register, including design briefs, design checks, permits, and inspection records.
  • Ensure all designs and procedures comply with BS 5975, CDM Regulations, and Airport Authority standards (e.g., MAG Safe Working in Live Airfield Environments).
  • Integrate temporary works planning within the construction programme and method statements (RAMS).

Safety and Assurance

  • Ensure safe systems of work are in place for installation, inspection, alteration, and removal of temporary works.
  • Support the Project Manager and Safety Team in ensuring compliance with airside operational safety and permit systems.
  • Lead temporary works briefings and toolbox talks for relevant operatives and supervisors.
  • Conduct site inspections and audits to verify compliance with design intent and permit conditions.
  • Liaise closely with the Airport Duty Holder and Airfield Operations to secure approvals and coordinate work within restricted or high-security zones.

Design Management

  • Review and approve Temporary Works Design Briefs (TWDB) and manage the appointment of competent designers and checkers.
  • Ensure that Category 1, 2, and 3 design checks are carried out by competent independent engineers.
  • Coordinate with permanent works designers to manage temporary works interfaces and load paths.
  • Oversee the management of design risk assessments, method statements, and residual risks.

Documentation and Control

  • Maintain complete records of all designs, approvals, permits, and sign-offs in line with company procedures and BS 5975.
  • Ensure "Permit to Load" and "Permit to Dismantle" are properly issued by authorized persons.
  • Support technical assurance submissions to the Airport Client and CDM Principal Designer.

Interface Management

  • Coordinate with other disciplines (civil, structural, M&E) to identify and manage temporary works requirements.
  • Liaise with Airside Safety, Fire Safety, Utilities, and Airport Engineering teams to ensure integration with operational systems.
  • Participate in planning and logistics meetings to align temporary works with staging and phasing requirements, especially around live operations or night possessions.

  • Excavation and trench support
  • Formwork, falsework, and propping systems
  • Crane bases, Piling Matts, hoardings, and scaffolding
  • Access platforms and edge protection / scaffolding
  • Temporary bridges, haul roads, and working platforms
  • Service diversions and temporary M&E provisions
  • Airside fencing, barriers, and signage
  • Temporary structures in high wind zones or within obstacle limitation surfaces

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent understanding of BS 5975 and CDM 2015 regulations
  • Strong coordination and communication skills with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Proactive approach to risk management and safety compliance
  • Ability to operate under airport authority procedures and within live operational environments
  • Competent in reading and interpreting temporary works design drawings and calculations
  • Strong record-keeping, documentation, and audit trail management
  • CSCS (Manager or Professionally Qualified Person)
  • CITB Temporary Works Coordinator Training (mandatory)
  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme)
  • Preferably degree or HNC in Civil/Structural Engineering or Construction Management
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in temporary works management on large infrastructure or aviation projects
  • Airside Pass (or ability to obtain) and knowledge of airport safety and security protocols
  • Experience under NEC Option A/C contracts desirable
  • Membership of a professional body (ICE, CIOB, IStructE) preferred
  • Due to the project location, all successful candidates will be required to complete a DBS check, gain airside passes & driving permit alongside additional pre-employment checks.
