Kiloh Associates is a leading civil engineering and construction design consultancy delivering high-quality temporary works and structural solutions across the UK. We are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Temporary Works Design Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team to support our expanding portfolio of work.

Role Overview

As a Temporary Works Design Engineer, you will be responsible for producing safe, robust, and cost-effective designs for temporary works required during construction processes. You will collaborate with site teams, contractors, and design professionals to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with all applicable standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design temporary works schemes including falsework, formwork, scaffolding, shoring, propping, hoardings, and crane platforms.
  • Prepare detailed calculations, technical drawings, and comprehensive design risk assessments.
  • Ensure all designs comply with BS 5975 and other relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate within the design team, seeking supervision when necessary and providing leadership to junior team members as required.
  • Deliver design outputs that fully adhere to company procedures and quality standards.
  • Communicate complex technical design issues effectively with engineers, technicians, and other stakeholders.
  • Execute moderately complex designs across multiple disciplines, ensuring compliance with CDM 2015 requirements.
  • Interpret briefing information accurately, apply relevant design codes and standards, and utilize appropriate design software efficiently.
  • Develop professional engineering skills and maintain records demonstrating achievement and competence.
  • Seek guidance from senior engineers when needed and provide mentorship to less experienced colleagues.
  • Lead site inspections and surveys, actively participating in technical correspondence and meetings with third parties.
  • Ensure designs and work practices meet the commercial and project-specific requirements.
  • Manage and supervise work to guarantee efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Provide engineering support during construction planning and delivery phases.
  • Review and approve third-party temporary works designs where appropriate.
  • Liaise effectively with site teams, clients, and Temporary Works Coordinators (TWCs).
  • Conduct site visits to assess design needs or verify installation integrity.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of temporary works procedures, systems, and best practices.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
