How you’ll power our business as a Terminal Operator Supervisor

As a Terminal Operator Supervisor, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient and effective operation of our Terminal. You’ll supervise a team of Terminal Operators, maintaining high safety standards while supporting the team to deliver operational excellence, exceptional customer service and our Safety F1rst culture. You’ll lead, coach and develop colleagues, ensuring the Terminal operates safely and efficiently while meeting the needs of our customers and the wider business.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supervise a team of Terminal Operators, ensuring the Terminal is maintained to a high safety standard.
  • Receive ships bringing in fuel and ensure fuel is correctly and safely discharged into storage tanks.
  • Carry out fuel testing to ensure products conform to specification.
  • Carry out maintenance activities within the Terminal.
  • Complete tank dips and other operational checks as required.
  • Carry out bunkering of fuel to ships.
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Maintain high standards of Terminal housekeeping.
  • Ensure the effective use of IT systems in line with relevant Company policies and procedures.
  • Train new colleagues in line with their defined job roles and provide ongoing support and coaching to develop their skills.
  • Manage and review the performance of colleagues through regular meetings and audits of the Wellworker system.
  • Identify training and development needs through effective and regular personal development reviews.
  • Support first-stage recruitment and play an active role in the selection and appointment of direct reports where required.
  • Manage employee relations effectively, maintaining productive relationships with the workforce.
  • Coach and motivate colleagues to build morale, support retention and create a positive team environment.
  • Maintain optimum staffing levels to meet business needs, including managing holidays and attendance.
  • Keep colleague information up to date on the cascade reporting system, including holidays and sickness.
  • Ensure all Company policies and procedures are followed.
  • Support the Terminal Supervisors and Terminal Manager as required.
  • Promote teamwork through enthusiasm, co-operation and flexibility, treating colleagues with respect.
  • Communicate and promote our Core Values and business objectives within the team.
  • Take responsibility for your own personal development.
  • Motivate and develop the team, ensuring colleagues have the skills required to perform their roles effectively, while identifying and developing key individuals for future progression and succession planning.
  • Complete annual appraisals and half-yearly reviews with each direct report.
  • Ensure effective communication across the team.
  • Understand departmental and business targets and the role you play in delivering them.
  • Ensure customer requirements are met in a courteous and professional manner at all times.
  • Operate all Terminal equipment correctly and safely.
  • Ensure all incidents, accidents and risks are appropriately reported and entered onto the Wellworker system.
  • Promote a positive Health and Safety culture in line with our Safety F1rst principles.
  • Ensure compliance with Company policies and procedures when driving on Company business.
  • Ensure the correct PPE is worn when visiting Company locations and customer sites, and comply with relevant site rules.
  • Take responsibility for your own safety and the safety of your team, colleagues, contractors, visitors and customers within the workplace.

  • Good Health & Safety knowledge and a strong commitment to maintaining safe working practices.
  • Good IT skills and the ability to use relevant systems effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous supervisory experience, with the ability to lead, motivate and develop a team.
  • Experience of working in a Terminal environment.
  • The ability to build positive working relationships and communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels.
  • A proactive approach to identifying training and development needs and supporting colleagues to reach their potential.
  • The ability to manage operational priorities while maintaining high standards of safety, customer service and compliance.
  • A flexible and collaborative approach, with a commitment to teamwork and continuous improvement.
