🚨 Test Architect | £750/day Inside IR35 | London
I'm currently working on an exciting 6-month contract opportunity (likely extension) for an experienced Test Architect to join the central Quality Engineering function of a leading financial services organisation.
📍 London – 2 days onsite per week
💰 £750 per day – Inside IR35
📅 6 months – likely extension
🔍 About the role
This is a genuine enterprise-level Test Automation Architect position — not a Test Manager role with some automation experience.
You'll be responsible for shaping the organisation's enterprise Test Automation strategy, architecture, frameworks and tooling, working across multiple programmes including Technology, Data Engineering, Finance and Partner Remuneration.
You'll be the key technical authority for automation, helping move the organisation towards shift-left testing, greater API automation and continuous testing through CI/CD.

✅ API Testing / Postman
✅ Shift-left testing
✅ CI/CD & DevOps
✅ Technical POCs & troubleshooting
✅ Automation strategy, standards & governance
✅ Experience assessing automation code/scripts
🤖 AI experience is essential
A key part of the role is understanding how AI can be applied to testing and automation.
We're particularly interested in candidates who have experience with AI tooling/platforms such as Claude, and who can identify opportunities to use AI to accelerate automation.
For example, exploring how existing BDD/Cucumber automation could be migrated towards Playwright using AI-assisted tooling.
The priority is technical excellence and enterprise-scale automation experience, so we're open to candidates from technology-led organisations and other industries who can bring modern automation practices and new thinking.

👤 Ideal backgrounds
I'd be particularly interested in speaking with:
- Test Automation Architects
- Enterprise Automation Architects
- Principal Test Automation Engineers
- Senior Automation Leads
- Heads of Test Automation
- Automation SMEs with significant architecture experience
You'll also work closely with an existing automation team of around 4–8 resources, predominantly offshore, alongside developers, architects, BAs, Scrum Masters and external suppliers. If you're a senior automation specialist who can define the strategy, architect the solution and provide genuine technical leadership, I'd be keen to speak with you.
