I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The organisation is looking to move testing further upstream in the project lifecycle, ensuring performance, scalability, resilience and other non-functional considerations are addressed from the outset rather than towards the end of delivery.
This is an opportunity for someone who is proactive and comfortable establishing best practice, creating standards and embedding a stronger testing culture across the organisation.
You should have:
- Extensive experience in Non-Functional and Performance Testing.
- Proven experience operating as a Test Architect, Performance Test Architect or similar senior testing role.
- Strong experience defining testing strategies and organisational standards.
- Experience establishing testing processes and governance from the ground up.
- A strong understanding of performance, scalability, resilience and capacity testing.
- Experience embedding testing earlier into the software development lifecycle.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- The ability to work with senior technical and business stakeholders.
- A proactive, hands-on approach to identifying problems and establishing solutions.
- Experience working within complex enterprise environments.
- The ability to provide strategic direction while remaining close enough to delivery to ensure standards are practical and effective.
