Job Description

Help shape quality engineering at Bright & Duggan Group

Bright & Duggan Group is seeking an experienced Test Automation Engineer to design, build and maintain the automated testing capability behind our proprietary Strata Operations Platform.

Working within the engineering team, you will play an influential role in our test strategy, quality standards and technical decision-making. You will partner with Engineering, Product, Data and Technology Operations to embed continuous testing across the delivery lifecycle, improve release confidence and reduce reliance on manual testing.

This is a hands-on engineering opportunity for someone who combines strong technical capability with practical leadership. You will create reliable automation solutions, improve quality practices and help ensure our software is secure, reliable and maintainable.

This role is a 2 year fixed term contract.

About The Role

  • Define and maintain test strategies, coverage models, quality gates and release-readiness metrics.
  • Design test approaches across API, integration, end-to-end, visual, regression, security and non-functional testing.
  • Build and maintain automated test suites that are reliable, reusable and fast to run.
  • Develop automation frameworks, libraries, fixtures, mocks, stubs and service abstractions.
  • Build automated coverage for APIs, services, integrations, workflows and user interfaces.
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to deliver early and continuous quality feedback.
  • Monitor test-suite health, execution time and flakiness, ensuring pipelines remain trustworthy.
  • Support performance, load, resilience, deployment verification and post-release testing.
  • Develop repeatable and compliant approaches to test data and test environments.
  • Diagnose and resolve test failures, identifying genuine defects and unstable tests.
  • Embed quality and secure-by-design practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Use AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly to improve test design, code generation, data generation, documentation and refactoring.
  • Coach engineers, share knowledge and promote shared ownership of quality across the team.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify testing, reduce maintenance effort and improve delivery confidence.

About You

  • At least eight years of professional experience in test automation or quality engineering.
  • Proven experience designing and delivering automated testing for complex business or enterprise systems.
  • Strong programming capability in TypeScript.
  • Hands-on experience with modern API, integration and end-to-end automation frameworks and tools.
  • Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
  • A strong understanding of testing distributed, event-driven and workflow-enabled systems.
  • Demonstrated experience applying security, reliability and quality practices within software delivery.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools and modern engineering automation practices.
  • Strong communication, mentoring, collaboration and stakeholder-engagement skills.
  • Experience working in agile product and engineering teams.

Experience with technologies including Playwright, Karate, K6, Pact, WireMock, Testcontainers, Toxiproxy and Axe will be highly relevant. Exposure to security testing tools such as OWASP ZAP, Semgrep or Dependabot would also be advantageous.

Experience in performance or non-functional testing, test-data management, PropTech, strata management, real-estate accounting or workflow platforms would be highly regarded.
