Job Title
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Test Craftsperson/Automation based in United Kingdom.
About the Role
Join a remote-first engineering environment where software quality and craftsmanship are treated as core engineering disciplines.
You’ll own testing across the full software development lifecycle, working alongside developers in a continuous deployment model.
The role combines functional testing, automation, programming, infrastructure, and close collaboration with product teams and clients.
You’ll build and evolve automation frameworks while using AI responsibly to make testing faster, smarter, and more effective.
Your work will directly influence product stability, user experience, and the predictability of production releases.
You’ll be encouraged to apply Agile, Extreme Programming, and DevOps practices while continuously developing your technical craft.

Accountabilities
- Own end-to-end testing initiatives across the complete software development lifecycle within a continuous deployment environment.
- Plan and execute functional and automated testing, identify relevant test conditions, and develop comprehensive test scenarios.
- Build, maintain, and continuously improve test automation frameworks using modern technologies and engineering practices.
- Use AI tools responsibly to generate and improve test cases, explore edge cases, analyze bug patterns, create mock data, and accelerate documentation while maintaining human oversight and quality control.
- Develop and maintain automated test scripts, troubleshoot failures, and improve the reliability and maintainability of automation suites.
- Understand user behavior and act as the user's representative, helping ensure system stability, integrity, predictability, and safe deployment of new features and fixes.
- Work closely with Business Analysts and other stakeholders to understand the system, identify process improvements, contribute to user stories, understand product roadmaps, and support sprint planning.
- Collaborate closely with developers and other team members in a DevOps-oriented environment where engineering teams share ownership of the complete release cycle.
- Contribute to programming, cloud infrastructure, testing environments, and other technical areas as required by project needs.
- Apply software craftsmanship, Agile, and Extreme Programming principles to continuously improve testing practices and engineering quality.
- Continuously develop your technical and professional skills while sharing knowledge and contributing to stronger engineering practices across teams.

Requirements
- 3+ years of hands-on experience as an Automation QA Engineer, Test Engineer, Software Engineer in Test, or similar role.
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies and a genuine commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable products.
- Hands-on experience with Cypress or Playwright and JavaScript as a core programming language.
- Experience creating test automation frameworks from scratch and maintaining them as products and technologies evolve.
- Practical experience with Behavior Driven Development (BDD), including Cucumber and Gherkin.
- Solid understanding of object-oriented programming, software engineering principles, and web technologies such as HTML and jQuery.
- Ability to write SQL queries for data validation and troubleshoot testing environments using Linux commands.
- Experience maintaining or working with test servers and an interest in infrastructure and cloud technologies.
- Strong interest in DevOps practices and CI/CD technologies such as Jenkins, Bamboo, or GitHub Actions.
- Practical experience using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, or specialized QA assistants to improve manual testing activities, including brainstorming edge cases, creating test cases, generating mock data, and accelerating documentation.
- Hands-on experience with AI-powered coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or Cursor to develop test scripts, debug automation issues, and maintain frameworks.
- A technology-agnostic mindset, with the ability to adapt quickly to new programming languages, testing tools, frameworks, and technology stacks.
- Working knowledge of Agile and Extreme Programming practices, including pair testing or pair programming.
- Strong sense of ownership, integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to engineering excellence.
- Collaborative communication style and willingness to proactively share knowledge, give and receive feedback, and contribute to team success.
- A growth mindset and genuine enthusiasm for continuous learning and mastery of the testing craft.
